An Unexpected Opportunity

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Hello my dear Spark Friends,

A most surprising opportunity has come my way! My dear friend Chris owns a property on Kangaroo Island and had spent 3 weeks there from just before New Year till a couple of Fridays ago.

After her return we met up and talked about my isolation issues and I mentioned how I would love to be well enough to do a short trip, as pain has sidelined me to the point of being housebound for over a year. Driving has been out of the question for longer.

Chris suggested a 'long weekend Island getaway' (as her partner is away interstate) and left me to think it over. At first I thought it might be too ambitious. When I mentioned my need for cushions to sit in the car, my own pillow and my memory foam mattress/overlay, and my concerns that pain might restrict me some days, Chris said it was all fine with her and there would be plenty of room for me to bring what I need. Mind you, we travel with her two doggies (properly restrained) on the back seat!

So after a day when I had pain that meant I couldn't go shopping with Mum, I felt a bit better and thought that if I take all my pain medication, and we have plenty of breaks on the car trip to catch the ferry to the Island, I might just be okay. And since I can take everything I need, I decided to just bite the bullet and make the most of this opportunity.

We have been emailing back and forth planning our food, etc. and I am feeling quite excited about this trip! I have been there with her a few times but not for a good couple of years. Chris will pick me up tomorrow evening and I will stay at her place so we can just go from there as it is a good part of the way closer to the ferry than where I live.

We are returning on the Tuesday afternoon ferry so I will be offline till Wednesday or Thursday.

Thanks so much to you all for commenting on my last blog - I really appreciate all your kind comments.

I hope you all enjoy your weekend as well!

Love, hugs and blessings,

Nattacia

How lovely Nattacia .. Will be such a great break away for you..
Hopefully you can control pain by panadol osteo, or even forte.
I have been using tramedol with some success too ..
Believe it or not, the excitement of doing something really special can also produce endorphins which naturally occur in your brain, will also help with pain relief ..
    Have a great time !

Oh that sounds fabulous and even though I know itís hard to do and prepare for I'm so glad you are doing it. I have a mother who has had some major health issues and getting up, walking, going places etc. is very difficult for her, which I understand but with the help of family she still can, yet she refuses to go or try most of the time. I get so up set and sad for I keep telling her donít put off today what you may never get to do tomorrow. HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME! emoticon
