We hear about this all the time. The miracle fat loss pill that scientists are working so hard to create. A new pill comes out and it is all the rage until people realize its not helping them so they wait for the next big thing.
People worry about the growing rate of obesity in this country. They want to find a way to CURE obesity.
I believe that if they ever made a drug that actually managed to get rid of your fat, it would be one of the biggest downfalls for the human race.
Look at where we stand now as opposed to many years ago. People have huge high def T.V.'s in nearly every room of the house. We spend more time focused on the lives of people on the TV than we do focused on our own lives and the people in it. We use our cars to drive two blocks because we are too lazy to walk the distance. We can order and eat food without ever having to get out of car. And when sitting in a drive through we expect to have fast service and get angry when we have to wait (Heaven Forbid they actually take the time to make the food for us on the spot). We believe that they owe us something for making us wait, such as something extra in our meal for free or a discount off our original order. People spend more time playing on their cell phones than they do reflecting on their day. We obsess with posting on facebook instead of talking face to face to people. We would rather post our big news as a status rather then call our parents, grandparents, and siblings individually. And most importantly..
...people think it is up to the scientists to solve the obesity problem. So many things in our life are just handed to us. Why was obesity never a huge issue in the past? Because people had to work for things. Children played outside instead of playing video games, meals were home cooked from produce grown in gardens. People walked. EVERYDAY. (and I'm not talking about the walking you do to and from your car) Going out was a treat. People didn't go to the movies every weekend and stuff their face full of popcorn, candy, and soda. The things that were a privilege for them are the same things we take for granted now.
People have already lost sight on how to work for things. If scientists ever did create a miracle pill, then the majority of the human race may never be able to lose the "I deserve to have everything handed to me" mentality. In losing weight I have learned discipline. Not just for weight loss but for my life in general. Getting started with SparkPeople has taught me how to fight for what I want to achieve.
I feel like people should not take the easy way out when it comes to weight loss (if they ever find an easy way). Losing weight the right way is not only good for your body but it is good for your mind and soul. It will change your mentality and change your life in a positive way.
So really, I just want to thank SparkPeople and all the people that use it. Thank you for doing your part. Thank you for taking responsibility and thank you for encouraging others. And one day, if they ever do make the "easy way", let us all say NO to it. And let us all encourage people to fight for what they want to achieve.
