Resting heart rate question

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

I am morbidly obese. Until I started exercising regularly -- low intensity, and 4x30 minutes per week -- last month, I was mostly sedentary. Oh, I was often toting around a 30 lb toddler and ran around after kids now and then, but not active by a long shot.

I got a Polar heart rate monitor that arrived today. According to the monitor -- and I was surprised enough that I did my own rough check with my hand on my neck -- my resting heart rate is under 50 bpm.

Does that make any kind of sense? Normally, I'd think it's a good thing to have a low resting heart rate, but given that it doesn't match my fitness level can it be a bad thing? Weird...

Hm. I didn't realize there was a connection with blood pressure. My blood pressure has always been quite low -- I need to make sure my sodium intake is HIGH enough, not low enough to avoid getting dizzy or lightheaded. So maybe that's it.

I too am morbidly obese and have a low resting heart rate as well. I also don't have high BP. I just consider myself LUCKY bc it could be very bad, very easily! Blessed.
