How I know I'm getting healthier:
a) I can see my activity level increase (fitbit charts)
b) My clothes are already looser
c) I have more energy
d) I no longer have to think about or remind myself to drink water
e) I don't get out of breath nearly as bad going up the big hill when walking the dogs around the block

    Good for you. That's good way to measure how your doing besides the scale.
