This is my first blog entry of 2013. My goal is to write a monthly blog to track my progress at losing and maintaining weight this year. I'm hoping that this will be one of the ways I can stay accountable this year to maintain my weight loss.
So far so good this year. I did start the year off sick so I wasn't actually able to really get started on my weight loss efforts until the 7th. That's ok though...at least I did get started. As of Monday, January 28th, I have lost 6 lbs! I think this is a great start. This is 1/3 of my weight loss goal reached already.
I am continuing to follow the South Beach Diet but have modified it a little. I'm on Phase 2 now but I only eat carbs for breakfast. I learned this trick from a local chiropractor who said that if you want to lose weight eat carbs only at breakfast. That way your body has all day to burn the calories you get from carbs.
Another change I've made is I've limited my Splenda consumption. In the past I would average about 10 - 12 packets of Splenda each day. I read an article about the harms of diet soda and it said that when you drink diet drinks you trick your body into thinking you've had sugar. Therefore, your body craves another sugar rush after the "Splenda rush" has worn off. I figured that if diet sodas caused this then drinking lots of coffee and tea with Splenda could have the same affect. I have to say that I am not craving sugar like I used to when I was using a lot of Splenda. I now average about 4 packets per day.
The final change I made to my diet is I'm also limiting my coffee intake. In 2012 I was averaging about 6 cups of coffee each day and some days even more. I'm now limiting it to 2 1/2 cups each day. I did this to help limit my Splenda use and also to help me sleep better at night. It has helped in both cases.
