Wet dog... wet me!

So I set out on my morning walk under beautiful weather conditions. But that didn't last... oh no, definitely not! Around miles 4 it started raining, then it started pouring, then the thunder and lightning started. Cooper was NOT a happy pup! I ended up carrying him the last 1.5 miles inside my jacket. Even that didn't help much as I was just wearing a denim jacket, not a raincoat. It soaked through the denim jacket, the hoodie I was wearing as well as the turtleneck and tshirt I had on. My boots got soaked, as did my jeans. I changed into dry things on my top half, but left on the jeans because, yes, I can be a moron at times. I could not get warm... and it didn't occur to me until I was sitting in the restaurant with my friend having lunch that it was probably the clammy jeans I was wearing. Doh! I did eventually dry out, except my hair which is still damp. Cooper got warmed up and dried out by running around my apartment like a crazy dog and rubbing up against all the furniture.

I am going to do my best to get to the gym tomorrow, but plans are evolving with my niece that may prevent it. I will have to play it by ear and stay flexible. If it isn't raining tomorrow I might just run outside, as the temperature is mild enough and the sidewalks are clear. For some reason I still feel self conscious about running outside. I have no troubles running at the gym. I wish I had someone to run with me. I think that would help a lot.

Today I walked a total of 10.1 miles and did 45 modified pushups and 24 big girl pushups. That's enough, don't you think?! (They helped get me warm again though.)

emoticon Wow, that's a lot of miles in one day! Sorry to hear you got so wet, but hopefully it was a relatively warm rain. emoticon I planned to walk this morning, it's in the 60s and I hate to pass up such warm weather but it's pouring so it's the treadmill for me today. :) And tomorrow's high is the 20s with snow. Ugh...

I don't know about where you live but here in Niagara the weather has sucked lately. Snow and freezing rain on Monday, Tuesday and today pouring and 16 celius and tomorrow back to freezing temps again. I have gotten to the gym but poor dog only gets the back yard, no walk (he's a 75 lb British BullDog so would prefer to lay on couch to walking anyway)

Getting caught in pouring rain while walking the dogs has happened to us quite a few times. It's not really that much fun, but we can laugh about it after. Good job!

Great job on the 10.1 miles!

Something to keep in mind when exercising outdoors in potential wet weather, once cotton gets wet, it holds water and wicks away body heat. And, as you found out with your jeans, cotton takes forever to dry.

There was a blog or article here on Sparkpeople several weeks ago with suggestions for ways to find clothing made of performance fabrics for reasonable prices. Why bother? The more comfortable you are exercising outdoors in different weather conditions, the more likely you are to get out the door no mater what the weather's like.

As for running outside, to borrow a phrase from a sports gear manufacture, JUST DO IT! Honestly, the more you get out there the more comfortable you'll get and the more you'll realize that no one who matters is going to care who you are, what you look like, what you're wearing, how fast you are, how slow you are, etc. etc. etc...

When I first started running I'd go out early in the morning or late a night to try and hide in the dark and avoid as many people as possible. It took me several months, after coming across other runners or neighbors taking out the trash and such, to really understand that no one was really paying attention, I was just one more person out running.

BTW, I started my journey at 325 lbs many years ago. I've had my ups and downs over the years but I always keep one thought in mind. Find something you love to do and Just Keep Moving! I'm currently 185.

Great workout! I feel self conscience about running outside too, but I finally said oh well. No gym membership, so the only way I can do it is outside! You can do it!!
