Brought to you by the word "down".

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

Today I was thinking (always dangerous, I know!) about the word down.
There are sooooo many ways to use it and it can mean good things or bad things.

So if you are down in the dump, obviously that is not a good thing. I mean, who wants to go to the dumps? OR if you are down in the mouth, you are frowning and not smiling and happy. Hence, those are negatives.

BUT if you are down a POUND, you are sooo happy, right?(yea I would be!!)

What about falling down? Usually painful or embarrasing or both!
Then when you fall down, you could stay down, but who would opt for that?
You could get knocked down, but you better get up and keep fighting so you dont get a beat down!

You can be down and out or you could go down-town, or down under! You could GET DOWN while you are dancing. Heck you could even dance at a HOE-down! Then my personal favorite, Boogie down!

You could slow down or be in a show down, you could be upside down which is kind of confusing, looking at things that way.
You could track something down or slam something down or you could get the low down.

You could get tied down which could be good or bad! Then you could be run down or you could lay down, plop down or sit down.

You can lay down the law or lay down your sword.

You can keep your head down or You can be down with that, you could be down on the corner, and then someone could bring you down.

Maybe you should keep your head down to avoid conflict or recognition.

Or you could wrap up in goose down and watch the sun go down...That sounds pretty good to me!

What kind of down are you choosing today?

Since today pretty much sux (don't tell my momma I used that word) I think I'll get down. Pretend for a moment that I'm at a happy party and I'm dancing away. I will also pretend that it looks cool and no one is laughing.

Neil Sedaka: Down doobie do down down, come-a come-a down doobie do down down, breakin' up is hard to do.

I'm totally down with you, girlfriend!
