How did I not know this?

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

For years, every time I thought running would be a good idea I hated it. The best part about running was stopping. Never understood what all those people loved about it.

NOW I get it. With age comes wisdom I suppose. I love running. It feels so good. I get out there are just want to keep going. How did I not know how good running could be?

I suppose like everything in life you have to really be open to it or you have to go into it without expectations. In the past I was focused on time and distance. I went to the track and concentrated on completing X number of laps. I read the articles and I guess I expected something magical.

This time - no track. No expectations. I just go out and I run around the park. I mean I really run around the park. The less I try the better I get and the more fun I have.

How did I not know that the secret to my success at a sport I thought I hated was to just go out and have fun?

I know what you mean about no expectations I didn't start running till last spring at 49, one minute at a time, till I slowwwwlllllly built up to 30 minutes. I run around the park too! I'm slow as a turtle, but I really enjoy it. I can't wait for the snow to leave to run outside again!
