Message to my 16 year old self

BLC Weekend Challenge post -
This isn't the blog entry I would have written a month ago, but with the last couple weeks, my life has changed dramatically, and with it my mind set. I put my parents through some rough times in my younger days, and with the passing of my father last week, I wish I could have not been such a difficult child in my teen years.

so...You...BRAT CHILD!!!! Yes you...the one who thinks she is smarter than everyone around her. Sure, you are intelligent, but you aren't as smart as you think you are. Get over yourself. You haven't even begun to experience life yet, and it would be nice if you could learn to show love to your elders sooner rather than later!
Appreciate your parents, your grandparents (your going to lose both your Grandpas MUCH sooner than you think), and even if your elders frustrate you to no end...be an adult and tell them you love them!!! It won't cost you anything, and it will make you a better person much sooner in life.

I just lost my dad two years ago, at the age of 25 and it still seems like yesterday. It's hard and doesn't get easy fast. Take it one day at a time. My thoughts are with you.

I lost my Dad at 19, if only my 16 yr old self could have seen the future, but alas we cannot. Were we really so different than most teens? Did it make our parents love us any less? In their eyes you were still a wonderful daughter, they just gray hair a little sooner than expected.

So sorry to hear about your dad Robin. I think we all wish we could have been better children but we don'trealize that until we age. Remember when we were teens we couldn't see past the next day let alone another year. We have to forgive ourselves as I know our loving parents forgave us long ago.

So sorry to hear about the passing of your father, Robin! It's nearing the 2nd anniversary of my own father's death, and while it gets easier, the feeling of loss is always there. Remember the good times; they will always be with you, and the bad times will fade away, as they should. emoticon

So very sorry for your loss; my dad passed away when I was 19 and never got to meet my husband or daughter, and my mom passed away a few years ago. You're so right, treasure your parents and elders, they are gone much too soon.

Robin, big hugs. I'm so sorry for your loss.

It's so easy to beat up on ourselves . . . for the things we did, the things we disn't do . . . but in tbe end, no matter how painful those experiences were, they make us the person we are today.

And I think you're pretty awesome.

Teen years are so difficult. Don't be too hard on yourself. Enjoy your grandparents and let them know how special they are to you.
You are right. It costs us nothing to love our family.

Get outside and enjoy the fresh snow (or whatever may be outside your window!

My condolences on the passing of your father. If we could only go back for even one more conversation once a loved one is gone. I talk to my Dad often in my thoughts, in a way he is still with me. I like to think love is something that never dies. Thank you for sharing. emoticon
