Realistically...

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

One of my fast break goals is to collect a motivational picture (and I'm still doing it... :) ) and Pinterest makes it SO easy. But do a search for "fitness inspiration" and you'll find so many people that look like this:

or even this:

Yeah. That's not happening. That's very unrealistic for me. I realize that I'm not going to put in the hours that it takes to look like that, I'm not going to do on the strict diets to lose every ounce of body fat, and my body just isn't a petite body. So I've been looking for some more realistic goal bodies. That sounds weird. :) But here are some real people in real, realistic bodies.

I would be happy with these bodies. They are doable, manageable, and realistic. And healthy and sexy and NATURAL looking! So that's what I'm getting into my head now.

I found two of these bodies at www.mybodygallery.com . It's a pretty cool site. You put in your height and weight (and you can put other sizes) and it shows you a bunch of women who are that size. Real women, who submit their own un-retouched pictures. It's a realistic look at what real women actually look like out in the real world. I like it.

I've looked at that website before and it's a really great site. It's nice that while we are being blasted with images of "perfect bodies" that this site reminds us that there are "real bodies" that are just as beautiful, if not more so. There's another one I found once with images of breasts. I mean, I'm not trying to stare at breasts all day but the site shows you what real breasts look like without sexualizing them. All shapes and sizes. What's normal and what's not. There weren't many that were not! Its good to be reassured that we are normal :)

Thanks for posting this! It's easy to forget that we're working being the best we can be, not someone else's best. Keep doing what you're doing, and thanks again for the reminder and the motivation!

I will NEVER be as tan as the woman in the first picture. Even when I get a bad sunburn, as soon as it peels off, pale skin is underneath- no tan. I've been to that website before, and thanks for reminding me of it! It is interesting to see how people that weigh 150 at 5'7" can look so different, based on their shape and body composition. It is good to know what is real! emoticon
