Week three -jan 27 -feb2/13

Monday, January 28, 2013

Well what a day. Got up today like any other day to go through the daily routine. Things did'nt go that way. After my morning shower I stepped onto the bathroom floor only to slip and find myself on my backside. Well I hear my leg snap and new it was broken, so now what. Well thank goodness for sisters. I called her and she was right over to take me to the emergence room. There we spent the next 31/2 hrs waiting for the results from the Dr . Yes my leg was broken.
My next concern was my fitness goals and how do I meet them? The Dr suggested the I would be able to use a stationary bike at the gym after about a week of no weight barring . Well this is going to be my next big challenge as I have not had the courage to go into a gym at this point yet. I have a week to pray and ask for strength to take this step. Maybe this is God's way of helping me to take this next step. It is better to find the positive in the bad than to dwell on the negative.
I will heal and move forward I will not let this set me back from my goals. My old self would have turned to food through this, but I will not let that happen.

This has been some week with some bad things and some very positive things that have happened. I was not able to do any exercising this week but have managed to loss 4lbs I am not sure other than cutting down on my food intake how this happened. I did have a number of Dr appointments which I had to walk to this did take some effort, I am using a walker to walk, crouches just did not work for me.

Thanks to my Sister Maria for all her help this past week I don't know what I would have done without her. You are such a blessing.

Also thanks to all my SP friends who have encouraged me over the last weeks on my journey to health.

    Dear Cora,

I am so sorry you broke your leg. I am so lucky I did not when I had my fall in december. The fact that they do not set that bone suprises me seeing as it is in your leg, yikes I geuss it is like ribs, they don't set those either. Well in regards to your first thought about how you are going to keep up your exercising I have a suggestion. I
too have feet I have to stay off of for at least a week if possible. I had surgery. Anyway not exercising has been driving me crazy so I finally broke down and looked up the spark people fitness video's to see if there were any I could do seated. I found a great Strength training video for the upper body that I did today. It was only 9 minutes long so I did it three times. Now this evening I am planning to find a seated cardio video if I can so I can add that each day as well. So my suggestion to you is to:
click on the Articles and video's link in the center of spark and then click on fitness and I bet you will find something you like and can do while seated. I hope that helps.

I also wanted to encourage you on the gym issue. I too was a hater of all things gym like until one very good day. I think if you have the time I would suggest you read an old blog of mine: http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_p

I had to go back and find it for you because I think you will be interested in it as I was in your exact shoes. Good Luck, I hope you find it helpful. Susan

So sorry about your leg. I'm hoping it is not too bad of a break and heals quickly.

Crutches are a workout in and of themselves. And there are plenty of "seated" video's here on Spark! You'll find something that works.
