Positive Affirmations that really work

Monday, January 28, 2013

Sometimes we hear that affirmations do not seem to make any difference to those using them and I just want to share a couple of techniques that I have used over the years that have been successful and these are to make my affirmations both Positive and Active.

It seems our subconscious readily accepts what we tell it, but does not understand a negative statement so it just removes the "not" from our affirmation.

So "I will not overeat, or "I will not do 'this' again", is translated by our subconscious into "I will overeat" or "I will do this again" thereby defeating the success of the very 'thing' we are trying to change.

Once I learned to re-phrase what I wanted to change into a positive affirmation things began to alter My spirits rose quickly in response to the positive thoughts and instead of giving myself a negative message like "I will not be scared" it became an easy matter to turn the words round into "I will be brave" or "I can be brave".

The principle is to remove the 'not' word from our affirmations and to focus on what we want to achieve rather than re-enforce the very thing we are trying to get rid of.

I know this is really old hat in one sense, (ie saying 'I can' rather than 'I can't' ), but if your affirmations are not proving helpful, consciously changing the wording may make all the difference.

On similar lines another thing which does work for me is to make a statement that is true and that I consciously believe so that my whole system is in harmony with my affirmation.

Rather than saying something like "I am happy and fulfilled" (if it is not yet true) changing the statement to "I am learning how to be happy and fulfilled...... or "I am putting into practice ways of becoming happy and fulfilled ..... can be much more successful along with practicing the actions.

Other words that do not seem to work in reprogramming are "I want to...". They do not have an active component so do not change our thinking or our actions.

Ie. I want to be slim. I want to be healthy etc. have no active ingredient, they are just wishes. I may want to do something with all my heart and cannot understand why it is not happening, but if I am not participating actively in the process of change nothing will happen. Part of a successful affirmation needs to include a positive action on my part.

Wishing or wanting does not make it so. Affirmation and Action do seem to be the magic partnership that bring about change.

A very good sharing blog Wispy!

Oh the power within us to create and use the power we all have. Believe and receive. Know and go...go to it, be apart of it. Believe little Tinkered believe and you will achieve what your heart desires. Think, speak and do! See it, believe it, live it!

Know as you know as you know, see as only your eyes can see, believe in your heart, see it in your mouth and speak it in your words. OH YES I AM.

(love you)

    Hey there guys,

I have not read the Law of Attraction, but Quantum Healing is about this principle and so much more. It seems we do attract what we believe to be true - for better or for worse. I actually can accept this to be true so in meditation I do visualize the completed outcome as if it already exists and then act accordingly. Affirmations do not play a big part in the system I use although in some situations they are present, but I would still only use words that I believe to be possible. I am not trying to convince myself of something I do not believe.

To anyone using Affirmations or the Law of Attraction principles with positive results - great going. I have had great success with Quantum Healing as detailed in previous blogs.

For me affirmations came many years before I discovered QH. I was using affirmations to TRY and MAKE myself be different without changing anything in my life to bring this about. I thought just repeating the affirmations would make it so. I was only using one part of the solution and never contemplated trying to bring myself in line with the Universe and its Plan for Creation.

I am only suggesting these things as an alternative if your current way of thinking is not working.

I never even think of changing something that is successful - like the old saying "If it aint broke, don't fix it".

Thanks Wispy! I am really trying to work with affirmations as part of an overal campaign to break out of this stalemate! Have been reading The Law of Attraction and thought I had some good affirmations. But that book says to think about what you want as if it already exists, which I've been doing. It's helped some, but not tremendously. I'm going to rewrite what I've been saying to conform to what you've said. Thanks for the tips!

Hi Wispy (long time no see!). I believe in similar affirmations. "Every day when I get out of bed, I weigh less & less, I am strong, healthy, confident, secure..people want to be around me". It's amazing how it makes you feel good!

The word "want" is actually another negative. It literally means "lack".

While exercising (walking) while watching tv - I often tell myself, oh the show has 20 more minutes before it is over, I "can" walk one more mile. This works much better than checking out my miles and thinking, I have walked two miles, thats enough. I think I can, I think I can.
