Book #1

Monday, January 28, 2013

One of my goals this year is to read 12 books. I have a hard time finding something to keep my interest, so I am challenging myself :) I hit my goal last year and want to do the same this year.

First up:
I Funny by James Patterson. It is a YA book. A very quick read and was similar to his Middle School Worst Years of My Life series. Jamie Grimm is a middle school age comedian who wants to become famous. He learns some hard lessons along the way and learns to make fun of himself.

If I had my regular classroom, I would do this as a read aloud. The kids would love it.

That's a good idea. I love to read but end up reading in spurts. 2-3 books at a time then a couple months until the next spurt. I have a ton of reading with grad school and it seems like I am either not up for more reading when I get home or I need something to read as a distraction from work.

Lately I have been reading some Martin Cruz Smith (currently reading Polar Star), some Alan Bradley (his Flavia de Luce series is really worthwhile, especially for someone who likes YA), a few mysteries by Andrea Camilleri and by Henning Mankell, and some historical fiction by Bernard Cornwall.

Check out the Alan Bradley books, the first one is called "The sweetness at the bottom of the pie".

Sounds cute. Might try it with my son.

I love reading YA books! I actually love children's books, too :)
