Home At Last !!!

Monday, January 28, 2013

I got discharged this PM and got home just as the snow started.
While in the hospital, the surgeon decided to use regular surgery instead of the robotic as the unit was tied up with another surgeon for the day.
Everything went well but my side looks like some one used it for a football.
He had to spread the ribs to get in. My side is now in vivid psychedelic colors from the bruising. The surgeon came in to see me today before I got discharged and told me no gym, no exercises and no driving for at least a week. I am allowed to walk, period. No work and no play. My wife gets to remove the bandages from the drainage tube tomorrow. Good thing she is a nurse (retired) as it looks worse than it is.
I didn't watch what I ate while in the hospital as the food is really good and I figured I wouldn't put on too much as there is no where to snack in between meals. I went in at 146 and came home at 150.
On the ward at the nurses station, they have a commercial Keurig coffee maker and cases of k cups so I was awakened each morning with a fresh cup of coffee. The staff was really happy with my progress.

It is a cancer ward and a lot of negativity happens there but the hospital has the most caring staff I have ever come across. They know how to make you want to get well and leave there.
Now that I'm home, I have to keep myself occupied 'til I can get back to the gym and work. The dog missed almost a week of walks so that is a good place to start. I didn't track my food intake while in the hospital so that is another place to concentrate on. Just getting back on track will keep me busy for a few days
I want to thank all the members that stopped by my blog to wish me well. Now that I am grounded for a bit, maybe I can post more on others blogs.

So glad to see that you are home! Hope everyday you feel better. Didn't know your wife is a nurse! Tell her I am jealous that she is retired! Still working FT and then some! Went to dinner last night with two friends. We graduated from nursing school in 1969! Yikes! We all commented that we never thought we would still be working at age 64! Oh well.....enough about me and back to take care!

I don't know the details of your surgery, why you had it done, if you have cancer or not, etc., but I am so happy for you in that you came out okay from the surgery and got to go home to your family and your dog. May you be blessed in this time of healing and I commend you for getting back on track here at Spark People. emoticon emoticon Chelsea
