Breakfast musings - dry cereal

Monday, January 28, 2013

Dry cereals: Rice Chex & Corn Chex, Shredded Wheat, Rice Krispies, and Cheerios. These were the standard cereals at my house as a child. We never had oatmeal, omeletís, or other fancy stuff. Only cold cereal in the morning during the week, and cooked breakfast on the weekends. That was OK by me. I loved all these cereals and have them in my house today.

Funny-- reading this only makes me think of corn flakes-- because that was the one and the only cereal that my dad ever bought for us! He was the grocery shopper, mom did not drive, so dad had all the "power" over all the purchases. Oh how delightful it was to spend the night at my friend's house, and in the morning I could have a different cereal from corn flakes! Wow...sometimes I could even have the choice from a "Post Ten" selection. Oh, the simple pleasures I missed! LOL
BTW---back in those days of history, the LARGE box of corn flakes was 24 cents!
