Emerging from hibernation

I seem to have been asleep for most of January. Apart from occasional forays to the front door to let in gas engineers (RIP my boiler, it finally died completely on Thursday last), I seem to have spent the month having colds and sleeping them off.

This wasn't helped by the weather, of course. You saw my last blog? Well believe me the snow looked pretty for a day, after that I wanted to return it to the shop and get my money back. It's a bit overrated, snow. There's a limit to the number of photos of snowy trees any normal person is going to want to take in a day, and I reached mine by 11am on the day it snowed.

So I've had my head under the duvet with a vampire novel (look, you want intellectual, don't come here) wearing a onesie.

The photograph is of my legs in a onesie. I would take a pic of the whole thing, hanging from the back of a door, but I don't want you blaming me for your doctors' bills. I managed to stay warm and to sleep about 12 hours a night, esp this last weekend when I went down with another cold.

And today I went to the gym and put in ten minutes on the treadmill which is quite good considering on Thursday I thought they'd be sending a man in grey pinstripe trousers and a frock coat round to measure me up any minute. Long way to go for ten minutes' exercise you say? Well yes, but they have nice hot showers at the gym, which is more than I have at home right now.

And on the way back . . . well, it's an atmospheric sort of evening here in London. You've heard me before on the rushing sound of the wind in the trees, well this evening there was that and the bellringers in the local church having a practice. It's windy and the temperature's up to about 10C. It was good to be out in it, I can tell you. There was a bit of rain in the wind and it didn't bother me at all, and there's a smell out there that is promising spring just round the corner.

And I stayed on track today for the first time in a fortnight.

Bring it on!

    Happy to see you back!

10 minutes on a treadmill is a start, right?

I know what you mean about the snow being gorgeous for a minute and then, well, the minute passes. Where I live, for the past week the temperature has been averaging between 10 and 20 F. Today it was almost 50 and I swear i could hear the crocuses thinking about blooming.

You are a brave soul! My furnace works fine and I still run around the house in soft thick sockies and furry robe over my clothes. You don't even have a furnace and are still rockin' flipflops. So glad you're back among the living. Hope you can stay healthy...Spring is just around the corner (at least that's what I keep telling myself).

So glad you're beginning to feel better! (Loved the onesie.) There is nothing so comforting as a good book, vampire or otherwise. Sorry your boiler died. Is this why you don't have hot showers yet?

Sounds like you had a pretty good day--good for you! (It's good to see you again.)

Ah the onesie a great invention, my daughter was given a unicorn onesie for Christmas by a friend, it even has a hat with the unicorn head and a pair of wings on the back.

Would that be a unicorn-ix?
you know a unicorn -pheonix. emoticon

So glad you are feeling somewhat better. Very clever of you, finishing off your boiler so you have no choice but to go to the gym. And once you get there, you're cold from the winter weather, and they have all these convenient warm-up machines (inexplicably called "treadmills"), so spending 10 minutes on one gets you all toasty-oasty and ready to take a shower. Really, you are quite inventive. Impressive. emoticon

    Welcome home !!!
Sounds like you are on the mend. Take care of yourself.
A "HOT" shower sure sounds good to me.
Be a 'good kid' and have some fun for the rest of us, as soon as you are able!!!
I had a cold... my son said to take Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold & Cough. I was a good kid and did as told. A week later I was fit as a fiddle and ready to play.

Hope you have finished with the colds! I remember the look of snow and that huge stillness it brings. But then there was the horrible sensation of it coming over the top of boots and melting in your socks, the terrifying ordeal of walking on pavements carpeted with frozen, uneven slush (this was Newcastle on Tyne), the agony of fingers and toes thawing out on heaters and the ghastly frozen school milk. I'm glad you were able to locate and make use of hot water! Get fully well soon.

Good that you are well enough to get out again! Surely hope you have a boiler soon.
Here in northern New England we're coming out of -20C to -6C just now with some snow that will turn to ice pellets this evening. I have to confess I like the winter. Since we live about 40 minutes from a gym, I'm grateful to shovel now and then. But misty rain in England sounds inviting, too.

emoticon Sorry you've been sick and hope that is all gone now. Ugh! I hate being without hot water. Did it for several months in Spain, and I'll never forget heating water on the stove to give my kids baths, and to do dishes. Wishing you the best in getting a new boiler. Not certain what a onesie is, but it looks and sounds warm. emoticon hang in there, winter WILL come to an end. Glad to read from you again.

Ienvy you your early springs in Britain. Here in Canada we have at least 2 more months of winter, and quite possibly 3. It's not unusual here to have BIG snow storms in April.

My dream, someday, is to come to England in early spring to see the snow drops... the closest I've come was the year my son graduated from university and I took him to Scotland in May. We had snow in the mountains and flowering shrubs in bloom in the valleys.

I hope your boiler is replaced soon so that you can shower at home (although it's one way of being forced to go to the gym).

Seems everyone is getting sick this winter. I very rarely do, and yet managed to catch both the flu and a cold.
I love your cute pink polka-dotted onesies. Hope they've kept you warm. When will you finally
get hot water again? Take care. We will survive. Just don't overdo it at first.

I had a boyfriend ages ago who had a quaint expression for when he'd been cooped up inside for too long. He'd announce: Well it's about time to go out and blow the stink off of ya, and then out he'd go for a long walk. Seems you were due for a bit of a walk! I hope you get a new boiler soon, and that you begin to get better, too!! Don't want you coming down with pneumonia, now.

I have your cold. I think I got it over the phone talking to my friend who was sick the other day. I have not been out of my apartment much the last couple weeks, avoiding crowds and germs so the cold germs must have slid in under my door. I am constantly washing my hands. I did have a flu shot along with the Whooping Cough and Pneumonia shots so I am pretty well covered.

I hope you feel better soon and glad you now have hot water. I live in an apartment so we have all the hot water we want provided for us. No individual water heaters in apartments.
