Happy Birthday, P & P!

Monday, January 28, 2013

200 years ago today! Well-done, Jane! Very well-done!
Her nice and meticulous observations of human character have served me very well over the years, as I play out my role of Mrs. Bennet with a dash of Mr. Woodhouse. To know Jane Austen well is not to know romance but to know the common, "normal", every day human personality with all of its little weaknesses and minor eccentricites.

I do have Mrs. Bennet's "nerves" and am ever so faintly stupid.
And tomorrow will come my personal self-evaluation for January. It will not be pretty!
Not a bit of it!

If I were stranded on a desert island, and could only have one book, it would be P&P!

BTW, I read The Perks of Being a Wallflower on vacation. I recommend it highly. Short, unusual, interesting voice. Coming-of-age novel.

Uh-oh... I feel a fit of exuberance coming on.... What a fabulous page to celebrate a supremely satisfying book by the incomparable Miss A.! Well done, yourself, GJ! (not to mention well done Colin Firth - "One must have one's BBC.")

Dude! My Grandmother passed away and I came across that book while cleaning up her house. I picked it up and now it's on my mantle along with a few more old book finds, some dated from 1900's! Anyways what I have is an actual hard back but it's not dated. I don't know if it's worth anything but I'm in love with it. Maybe I should read it now. Glad I read this, thanks for sharing!

My favorite! I named my last cat Darcy after Mr. Darcy. He even looked like Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth version), I swear!

Congratulations to Jane from me as well! Coincidentally I am re-reading Jane...just started Northanger Abbey, finished Persuasion today, read Emma over the weekend. You aren't the faintest BIT like Mrs. Bennet OR Mr. Woodhouse!
I'll get to P&P by next week...
Happy to see the cat of today's wallpaper, last night you had lots of red bows or something but just the faintest edge of yellow cat, not nearly enough for me.

I don't think you possess the nth degree of Mrs Bennet's silliness! More Mrs Gardiner!
