The cheapest tickets for our flight to London in June were available through Iceland air. They don't fly direct, so we had no choice but to change planes in Reykjavik, Iceland with either a 1 hour connection or an 8.5 hour layover.
I've had enough airline issues in my life that I'm not willing to risk all my luggage on a 1 hour connection between international flights - so I opted for the longer layover.
Now, I could probably kill 8 hours at DIA or O'Hare, but Keflavik Internaitonal Airport in Iceland is 1 terminal, 2 runways, and like 9 shops. BORING.
So, I did a little searching. It turns out, long layovers are the norm for people flying Iceland Air, and those Icelanders aren't dumb.
Daily shuttles take travelers from the airport to The Blue Lagoon Geothermal Spa. It's THE thing to do if you're stuck in Iceland for a few hours. Swim in the hot springs, maybe have a massage. Drink an icelandic beer while relaxing poolside. A good start or ending to a long vacation.
Now, I'm even excited about our stupid-long layover!
