Frozen Zucchini Adventure

Monday, January 28, 2013

Yesterday was the third annual Frozen Zucchini 5K Snowshoe Race/Adventure. We didn't have enough snow, so it became a foot race. Our area was under a sleet/ice advisory, so I was praying that the rain/ice would hold off until the race was completed. I'm happy to say it was a good start for me for 2013. My goal was to finish in under 45 minutes, and I did by a couple minutes! I met another woman at the start line who had the same plan as me: walk some, jog some, walk some, jog some. So we kept each other company for most of the race. Both of us have the ultimate goal of jogging an entire 5k by year end. We made plans to meet at another 5K in May. The proceeds of this event benefit a local community garden which grows vegetables that then get donated to our local food pantry. So here I am with the race mascot, a zucchini.

Thanks, Veronica and Cindy, for visiting my little blog. Participating in this 5k has motivated me to stick to one of my 2013 goals: jog a 5k. While I didn't dwell on it during the race, it was hard to see the backsides of just about all the racers in the Zucchini 5K. The fastest time in my age range was about 25 minutes, which is amazing to me, and almost twice as fast as my time. So I've signed on a C25K team on SparkPeople to help train me, with the local Mother's Day 5K as my next race. emoticon , here we come.

I am so happy for you. I loved the pic and the idea behind the race. I am also glad that you had a chance to meet someone and plan to do another 5K in May. That is awesome. Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to post my own experience in May. You have inspired me all over again.

Have a blessed week.
Veronica

That's awesome! And who would have thought to name a race after a zucchini? That's too funny! emoticon
