Exercise buddies?

Monday, January 28, 2013

I'm not a big fan of working out with other people watching. I don't mind group exercise classes (they're actually my favorite) but I don't want to know anyone else in the class. I've been challenged by this lately -- sometimes humorously.

A couple of weeks ago I worked from home and therefore attended a 5pm class at the gym that I otherwise can't make it to. Who do I see there but a former co-worker!? It was great to see her again, but why did it have to be at the gym? On Saturday I went to Zumba and ran into a former neighbor. She was right behind me, too, so I felt "watched" the entire hour! (I know I should just get over myself.)

And then, today... Oh, today... emoticon
The premise of not being watched is also why I don't work out at home if my boyfriend is there. We live in a small one-bedroom condo with only one TV, which is located in the living room. He is respectful of me and would never laugh or anything. I just don't like it.

We had bad weather* this morning and work start time was delayed. My boyfriend stayed in bed and I decided to do a workout DVD, thinking he'd stay in bed for those 45 minutes. Of course, he got up about midway through my workout. My dislike is general, not pathological, so of course I continue. He goes to take a shower and right as the cool down starts...

The front door opens! We are re-doing our bathrooms and the start day is today. I knew that when I put on my workout clothes. But I didn't expect them there before 9am, not while I was working out! And they didn't knock, just in case anyone was home. Eek! I shot up and turned the DVD player off really fast, rolled up my yoga mat and tried to act like they didn't just see me working out at home. LOL emoticon

*I just want to say that the weather was FINE. It was mostly rain though the sidewalks were a little slick. I did not see any reason we needed a FOUR HOUR delay. Work begins at noon today! I came in early regardless since I have workers in my small home. emoticon

I am the same way, too! I've (mostly) gotten over working out in front of and even with my boyfriend but I hate running into people I know when working out. I took a yoga class with a friend once and always felt like she was watching me. I know I should get over it too but it's hard - I'm definitely not the "work out with a buddy type"!

I am the absolute same way about working out! If I am running and see someone ahead, I will run the other direction. I will not workout at home if someone else is there, even if they are sleeping. I just get paranoid about it!
