Crazy Weather

Monday, January 28, 2013

I was thinking people were a bit ridiculous panic buying on friday/saturday. Now that it's monday and it looks like roads to the south might be cut off for days I'm sort of wondering if that'd have beena good idea. I could probably live out of my pantry/freezer for at least a week or two but I'm not sure of the quality of food we'll get from that!

It also looks like the Fitzroy river in Rockhampton is going to flood with a peak next weekend. Possibly up to 8.5m, it got to 9.2m in 2011 when our rental home flooded. Thankfully we don't live there now but I know the girl who owns the house and I feel so bad for her. At 8.5m the water will probably get in her house again, and this time she's living there.

I just hope it doesn't get up to 8.8m as that will put the airport under and we're going away for my birthday on the 6th of Feb.

In addition to roads being cut Telstra, which is the major phone/internet provider has been cut. This is going to mean no phones at work tomorrow unless they get it reconnected before then. We have Optus so aren't affected but I can't call most people as they all have Telstra. I am scheduled to visit a property tomorrow that won't be flooded but I doubt I'll be able to get hold of him. Should make for an interesting day. I doubt our computers will even work to look up phone numbers. Plus I discovered none of the atms work. It'll be interesting to see if our eftpos works.

All minor concerns compared to all the people who've flooded. I hope everyone in QLD and now NSW are staying safe. I'm just working on staying cool here as we have no more rain but it is back to 90F again.

Hang in there, sounds like you've thought through the scenarios. It's good to be prepared mentally.
