husband stumbles upon 16 yr old in accident / stops to help in bitter cold/ so proud of him

Sunday, January 27, 2013

My husband was coming home from his weekend job and came across a one car accident a 16 yr old was driving drunk and smashed into a telephone pole. He and another car immediately stopped to come to this young mans aid to find that he was pinned in, my husband said the car was so far up from the crash he couldn't see the young mans legs. There were live wires all around as the telephone pole broke in 3 places and he was telling the other man that stopped to watch out for the live wires.
There was no way to get the boy out and a lady came from across the street and said she called 911 when she heard the crash. The other man left, but my husband got on the cold ground and started talking to the boy (see we have a 16 yr old son so this really hit home) he was asking him his name cause he wanted to keep being responsive and not slip away from the shock and cold.
He asked him his name, his age and he told him his name and that the best thing he could do was stay calm and just didn't want the boy to feel alone.
The cops came along with the firemen and it took them over an hour to get him out of the vehicle with the jaws of life. My husband stayed there the whole time and I have to say how proud I am of him that he did.
He saw a woman run down the street in her PJ's thinking her son was in the car with the boy as her son and him are friends and she heard of the accident on the scanner.
My husband never ceases to amaze me this has been such a bad week for him as I was in so much pain and he did everything around the house, as he worked OT at work (finally got some on the worse week possible) and was taking my place at the hospital to visit my dad.
He worked his weekend job and then came across this young man with his twisted car on a winding road.
He could of drove by others did, but he stopped not knowing what he'd find in that twisted car, but in the bitter cold he stopped and stayed to make this young man feel safe and let him know that someone cared enough to be lying on the ground talking to him as this boy lied tumbled down in the car, the steering wheel mangled and into the passengers side.
They finally got him out as the cops asked him if he was drinking he said he had a few, the cop said that's probably why your still alive cause he couldn't feel the pain. He was later taken by helicopter to the hospital.
We watched the news and it said that he had a severe leg injury, I'm praying this young man ( same age as our son) is okay and that god blesses him and he recovers soon.....
Today we hugged our son a little tighter and told him about the accident, I made sure as I've told him this thousands of times I don't care how old you are don't ever be afraid to call us if you've been drinking (he doesn't drink) , I told him don't ever drive drunk you not only put your live at risk but others as well. I said you can always call us and we'll go pick you up no matter what we want you safe...

Wow that is awesome!! God bless all of you and may the favor come back to all of you! I also told my kids over and over again not to drink and drive and not to get in a vehicle with someone else that had been drinking. I learned the hard way......from experience. When I was 14 I lost an 18 year old brother due to drinking and driving (motorcycle) believe me the experience is not pleasant for anyone.

So true and a line I have told my kids all the time, still drive them to a party so they can take taxi home and they are married. now just saving them money! lol
So glad your hubby stayed, that the young man should be okay and noone else was hurt, hopefully he and your son both learned a lesson. HE not to do it again, your son to not ever do it and what a great dad he has once again.
