Homemade is Best!

Sunday, January 27, 2013

DH and I both were sick this week. First I had a terrible upper respiratory infection. At one point I coughed so hard I thought I'd have to go to the ER. Needless to say, DH caught it and fortunately it wasn't as severe for him.

Since we could barely move out of bed/off the couch this week, we made a quick trip to Costco and bought some chicken soup, a rotisserie chicken, mac and cheese, and a veggie tray. I usually love stuff from Costco, but I rarely buy any of their pre-made food. I was disappointed.

I've had lots of time to cook since I quit working due to my frozen shoulder. I have to admit that thus far there are only a couple of things that I really like to go out for: pizza (thin, thin crust) and sushi. Everything else is "just OK" when we go out now. 20 years ago when I was single I was all about takeout and frozen dinner. My how times change!

I was just thinking about you this morning and wondering how your frozen shoulder is coming along. It WILL get better. It's been about 18 months since I was diagnosed and mine is pretty much gone now. It just takes time and lots of gentle stretching.

My HD and I had the cough from Hades this past two weeks so I know what you are going through with that. We went to Costco and got the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. The meatloaf was terrible. I kept saying while I was eating it that even though my own homemade meatloaf isn't very good, it's far better than Costco's! We also bought soup, diet sodas (to get our fluids up) and expectorate. My asthma was really out of control last week so I went to the doctor too. It was either that or the ER, it was so bad. I'm much better now.

I didn't realize you had quit working. Do you plan to go back or retire early?

Sorry you have been ill. That is no fun for sure. Between the recession and Spark, we have drastically reduced the amount of times we go out... just once in January. I agree with you homemade is best.
