This morning, my husband (Doug) and I had the pleasure of running a 4-mile trail run at Old Tucson Studios. This is an interesting race, as it makes one loop around the studio grounds, then 2 miles into the desert, and then back to the studio grounds for the last mile. Because the trail is single-lane thru the desert, there is a different start time for the guys and the ladies (although either sex can whatever race they want).
Photo of the guy's start:
And, a photo of Doug (well, a partial photo):
The weather was almost perfect, at 45-50 degrees and partially cloudy.
An hour later, the lady's run started - and here I am in the light blue shirt (new camera, and it takes photos quicker than we are used to):
41:36 minutes later, the beloved finish line:
The course was a bit of a challenge, for the 2 miles into the desert. First of all, it was mostly single-file, and as a trail race - there were rocks, or sand, and other obstacles. The course was close to a mountain, so the first half of the trail was a slight incline up (glad we had run in this race before, and I knew it wouldn't all be going up), and there were LOTS of ups and downs - as you can see in the next photo:
All in all, it was a great race. Well organized, great weather, nice breakfast afterwards, and unique. It is nice that it is a different race length than most, so no worries at trying to PR. But, we still gauge our run times compared to previous years and I was able to cut almost three minutes off last year's time. (Doug did take 2nd in his age group, and I did my typical middle-of-the-pack finish, 7th in my age group out of 15. 78th overall female out of 150 runners/walkers.)
If you are ever in Tucson in January, I'd recommend this race.
