Shin Splints?

Sunday, January 27, 2013

I was on the treadmill .. and the front of my left shin was aching .. I remember that feeling from wearing high heels in my younger days ... I learned today after looking it up that its called shin splints and its from not stretching enough and doing too much before you are ready for it.

I admit I was doing too much too soon .. I tried to up my walking speed because I wasn't working up a sweat .. and lo and behold I was in a lot of pain ..so much so that I have been out of exercise commission since friday ..

I have learned in future . not to push myself too much and realize that my body has to climatise to the exercising after so many years of inactivity .. I am hoping the elliptical will give my shins a break ..at least I know I will be much slower at that and work up a sweat too : )

Try icing them and when you walk on it, try using a heating pad to warm the muscles better too along with stretching

Shin splints stink. But they do heal. Just be sure to take it easy and build up, and above all, stretch :)

I had to get rid of my treadmill because it caused me a lot of pain in my heel. Now I just walk, right now inside the house because it is cold outside. I live in a double wide trailer and walk end to end and then around the oval of my living room, dining room and kitchen. Take it easy. I also walk down every aisle when I go shopping to make more walking. Check out the video exercises and see which you might do. That is so great getting married. I have been married for 42 years. It is full of ups and downs but worth it. Congratulations.
You can do this. You know you can! I have been on a lot of ups and downs all my life. Mostly overweight. I lost 90 pounds after several surgeries then gained taking steroids while having chemo. I had 2 cancers. Now I am ready to take it back off and get healthy. I will be one hot granny in 2014. Have a super week. Pam

*hugs* I'm in the same boat. I tried pushing myself too far and got shin splints. Now all I can do is walk to work and go grocery shopping. *hugs* Feel better soon!
