Sometimes you just have to eat what's available

Last night I spent the night with my daughter-in-law and son at the maternity hospital where I was privileged to be at the birth of our first local grandchild – a beautiful little girl. We went to the hospital at around 10:30 at night, and she was born just before 6 in the morning. Mama and baby are doing well. Grandma doesn't do so well on no sleep, but the energy of childbirth carried me through until I got home around 10 this morning. I was too busy and didn't take enough food with me, and my food choices this morning and this afternoon left a great deal to be desired, but I'm ready to jump back on the bandwagon tomorrow morning and start tracking again. I didn't binge, but I ate too many high carbohydrate-high fat foods today. Plus wine this evening. The first time I've let myself get a bit tipsy since I thought I would be called on to drive the mama-to-be and her hubby to the hospital at a moment's notice. I'm doing well, and I don't think it's terrible to eat things I wouldn't ordinarily eat under the circumstances. This is a considered decision to eat what's available and follow my cravings for a couple of “meals.” I'm not being fanatic, I'm being reasonable under the circumstances. And I know that tomorrow morning I'll get up and have my regular breakfast, and life will be wonderfully ordinary. Except that there's a wonderful new baby in the family. I'm looking forward to long walks with a stroller.
