How to get your RAWR on...

Sunday, January 27, 2013

If you read yesterday's blog, then you know my Friday was not all it could have been, but I made up for it on Saturday. Whew! Thank goodness for that. I much prefer having more positive days to cancel out my negative days, y'know?

Aahhh. Better! I've been dithering about when it comes to the Rock'n'Roll Portland Half that I'm registered for. I use to run with a local Galloway group, but because of the gained weight and cranky attitude (mine, not theirs) I've left them. I followed a similar training plan for walking the Portland Half last October, and it worked well. I figured, even if I'm not running with the Galloway group, I can follow their training plan no matter if I'm running or walking it. So, that's what I'm doing.

Right now, I'm pretty ok working toward this goal by myself. I do wish I could find someone as slow as me to run with me. One of the leaders of the Galloway group offered to slow the group down to allow me to stay with them, but that's not fair to those who are stronger better runners. I'm good with my decision, and I know if I get my running chops back to what ~I~ think they should be, I can rejoin them for the fellowship.

To help remind me of my goal, I'm wearing my Girlfriend's Half bling. It's a simply disk with the figure of a girlfriend running, and 13.1 on the face. The back reads Girlfriends Run 4ever! I'm going to do my level-best to wear this every day as a tangible reminder of what I want to do. I want to run (for new friends, my version of running is walking for 45 seconds, running for 45 seconds.. intervals) the R'n'R Half. That is my goal. I'm not going to worry about time, just effort and completing the run upright, healthy, and happy!

Anyway, that run, as slow as it was. left me feeling ~SO~ good all day long. It was certainly one of those "if only I could bottle this feeling" moments. I did ride my version of a runner's high all day long, and that carried over to my eating as well. I kept it under control, even if I splurged a bit in the process. If I eat well for my main meals, I eat less inbetween. Is that a duh moment or what? LOL I ~know~ this and yet I don't always employ it.

I'm also coming out of TOM and looking forward to the morning when I get up and go potty and pee for 5 minutes straight. That's when I know I'm in the clear again. Was that TMI? Sorry.

My menu for the week is planned out. It's full-on paleo, and it has a few things I've not tried before. Bill, stalwart man that he is, is game to cook and help me through it. You know I'll keep you updated on how it's going as time goes on.

So far today, I've done my Upper Body workout with Coach Nicole, cleaned Millie and Maggie eye boogers, made another batch of Nutola for breakfast and snacks, done two loads of rugs laundry, with regular laundry at the ready on deck, fed all the animals, and I'm about to feed myself. Not bad for being up for two hours, eh?

Real quick before I go - I did this Upper Body workout on Friday and this morning.

It's great to feel my muscles strain and work again. Part of this video involves hitting the floor and laying on your back, then stomach. Of course, when I do this, I have three cold noses and wet tongues in my face, ears, up my nose and anywhere else they can get me. The puppies are such HUGE HELPS when I'm working out LOL

Bubbie is my biggest supporter, and as I'm doing my thang, he's right there. The last move is a set of push-ups. As I start these, Bub moves right in front of my face, flops down, and lays with his paws up, belly right in line with my nose when I lower myself down LOLOLOLOLOL Crazy kid! I am so lucky to have such amazing little furbabies who love me so much they help me work out.

Spark on my friends. Fast or slow, big or little, try to do something today that makes you feel as amazing as I think you are!

Once I figured out that I can make up for a bad day (because it's all about numbers averaging out over a period of time, right?) it made it easier to forgive myself when I had a bad day. Good job making up for a not so good day! I love your enthusiasm. It makes me want to train for something...although I'm not quite sure I'm ready for that though...but maybe soon!

Candy I have to tell you how much I love your blogs. Whether you're having a good day or a bad day, there's always something in them that makes me want to keep pushing through and makes me so proud of you for all of your insights. Thank you for writing them.

Love that you have the support of your family (fur babies and Bill) to help you along the way.

Sounds like you've had a great morning. Here's to a fabulous rest of the day!

You are such an inspiration to me! I have been down with a cold and not feeling like doing too much the past couple of days. You have lit my fire again and now I want to get to where I can run! I haven't run since I was a kid, but I really want to get the old ankle built back up and give it a try. Thanks for the inspiration!
