A summer sampler

Sunday, January 27, 2013

A gorgeous day today, sunny, no wind. DH rang to say he had caught an early plane so I picked him up and we had breakfast at Maranui, a cafe above a surf life saving club. It has awesome views of the beach and out to sea, here are some pix:
He had breakfast and I had a cup of tea, that was OK. Then we walked along the beach and caught up abut his trip to San Francisco, then home where he caught up on some sleep while I gardened for about 4 hours, it was blissful. I took my packed lunch (OK, it's apples for me today) so as to not need to go back in the house and disturb him. And had a lovely time with the birds.
A really strange thing happened while I was having lunch, a tui flew onto the soil next to the bird bath and ruffled up her feathers and crouched on the soil, just getting sunlight into her skin. She kept an eye on me most of the time but was perfectly relaxed. Then she hopped to another spot close by and did the same thing.

A very happy day, still warm and still, and the forecaster says, more to come.

That sounds great. With our cold weather here in the northern hemisphere, it's good to hear about warm summer days.
