January Freeze 10K Series: Done!
Saturday, January 26, 2013
The official temp for today's 10K race was 7 degrees. Wind, although not as bad as expected, made it feel colder. That didn't stop 80 intrepid runners from showing up and completing the race.
These are pictures of people warming up pre-race. The full course was snow and ice which made for slower going for the "elite". It didn't have any effect on me because I'm already relatively slow, and used to running in snow.
This is the straightaway into the finish. It didn't improve during the race.
I think most of the runners ran through the finish line and directly to their cars. Even though this was trophy day for the series, many of the trophies were not picked up even though the winners participated in today's race. Of the 20 or so people who stayed around, I think half were organizers or volunteers but everyone was happy.
Here are the three female age group winners for the entire series.
For me, committing to this race series was a great decision. It kept me active during my traditionally sluggish time. I'm ready to start training for the longer races I plan for this year.
For the record, my times were pretty consistent. My slowest mile of the 25 was 10:11 mph and the fastest was 8:31. All the rest were in the nines.
