Still resting?

Saturday, January 26, 2013

Snowshoeing was fun today. I went out with my brother again. (Yes, the kayaking brother.) He had to take detour as he busted one of his snowshoes, but my dad has an extra pair, so Jeremy just swapped them out and caught up with me. I broke trail most of the way, and I thought I was setting a reasonable pace, but Jeremy said my pace was "brutal"! I guess all that running is paying off. I am still not certain if I should go back to the gym on Monday, as that pulled muscle is still a little tender. If I go I am going to want to run, and that muscle might not be quite 100%. I really WANT to go though.

In addition to snowshoeing I did my normal Saturday routine... walked the dog, Farmer's Market, lunch with my parents, then home to walk the dog again. I got a chance to talk to my niece, Tigan, on the phone, as she called my parents' house while I was there. She goes to college in DC, so I got the scoop on the Inaugural Ball that she went to.

So, I walked the dog for about 2 hours total today, did the challenge video twice, snowshoed for an hour, and used my rower for 50 minutes. I try and do at least 1000 strokes on the rower each time I use it. I went over that today though.

I did well with food today. I tracked everything as usual, and although I ran a little low on calories my carb/fat/protein proportions were very close to perfect. I made lunch for my parents and I today, and we had salmon, sauteed veggies, raw veggies, green beans, and fresh baked whole wheat bread with butter. I picked up some kohlrabi at the Market this morning, so I sliced that up for part of our raw veggies. My dad sent me home with frozen soybeans (from their garden) and a pound of exceedingly lean ground beef. (The beef is so lean I have to put oil in the pan when I cook it!)

    emoticon effort as always :)

If you go to the gym then listen to your body, you know what it needs & if anything hurts then don't do it! I know this is foreign to you, but exercise gently if you are going to train on an achy body part and stretch carefully too.

Take care

Go to the gym on Monday. Do a long, gentle warm up. Try to run. If you can't keep a normal gait or if you feel acute pain, stop. If it is just transient or mildly uncomfortable, keep going at a gentle pace until it works itself out. Then make sure you do gentle stretching at the end. If it continues to be sore when you get home, ice it.

I'm thinking if you are breaking a trail on snow shoes, you can run on the treadmill.

Sounds like a really productive day. Don't overdo, give yourself time and rest to heal.
