Input on workout vs play balance

Saturday, January 26, 2013

So as many of my friends know I'm a horrible video game addict. I'm seeking some help from people, maybe some insight that will help me balance my two passions - working out and being healthy....playing video games.

Today I did an hour of Zumba and only ate healthy foods. I rewarded myself with an evening allowed to play video games and enjoy a fresh peach smoothie.

This was nice - it felt like a reward I'd earned rather than something I was doing instead of the other. Does anyone have a balance like this in their life - allowing yourself to do something you really like in exchange for doing something right for yourself?

I'm still trying to master the balancing act! But I do reward myself for working out. If I get all my scheduled workouts in for the week I put money into my New Wardrobe Fund!

I reward myself for reaching goals, but I don't have daily rewards like that! Well...I guess I do! Whenever I come back from the gym, I always have my vitamin C drink (a sweet tasting drink that gives me loads of vitamin C so I won't get sick this winter). I guess that's like a reward since I'll ONLY have it once I come back from the gym!

What you could try doing is equalling the amount of time. So if you spend an hour at the gym, you're allowed an hour playing video games. Or if you don't go to the gym, then you can't do video games (if you have the time to do video games and haven't gone to the gym, then you might as well use that video game time AT the gym!).

    I think that's a great idea!
