If you are anything like me then there are people in your life.
People who want you to lose weight.
To get fit.
To be healthy.
I've got my lovely bride.
And my children.
My insurance agent. (Well, the jury is out on him.)
Lots of folks.
How about you?
You probably have SOMEONE who wants you to lose weight, get fit and be healthy, right?
Few of us are COMPLETELY alone.
And if you ARE alone at home,
Your SparkFriends want you to lose weight, get fit and be healthy.
So you're not REALLY alone, are you?
But tell me something, OK?
Itís a bit personal.
Iím not trying to pry...
But your answer to this question is critically important.
And that isnít hyperbole.
Itís a fact.
My question is...
Who wants it the most?
Who wants to see you lose weight, get fit and be healthy the most?
Is it your mother?
Or your spouse?
Your kid sister?
Your best friend?
If you answer anything but "me" then I'm going to say that
YOU need a BRAIN CHANGE.
I see you looking at this right now and getting that little snarl on your face
That ďHow dare you tell me what I need, you know-it-all jerkĒ snarl that says Iíve touched a bit of a nerve.
Iím quite skilled at that but Iíd ask you to indulge me for a second.
Hear me out, OK?
I mean it is WONDERFUL that Mom or Aunt Flossie or your kid sister Velma or your best friend Dieter wants you to succeed.
It REALLY is.
But If Mom or Flossie or Velma or Dieter wants it MORE THAN YOU DO then...
YOU DON'T WANT IT ENOUGH.
If your boss or your co-worker Betty Lou or old Doc Jones is more concerned about your physical condition than you are...
Then I'm going to say boldly that
YOU ARE UNLIKELY TO SUCCEED AT YOUR WEIGHT LOSS.
YOU WILL PROBABLY NEVER GET FIT.
YOU ARE LIKELY TO NEVER BE AS HEALTHY AS YOU COULD BE.
Yes, Iím direct and blunt.
Suck it up and deal with it.
Iím trying to help you save your life here, OK?
"But, you don't know anything about me, Matt."
"You should shut your yap because you are wrong."
I don't think I am.
You see, unless and until YOU decide that losing that excess weight is important.
That getting fit is a priority.
That your health is job one.
And that YOU want it the most.
Then you aren't making yourself a priority.
And you are probably making excuses.
And you probably think it simply isn't possible to lose the weight.
And youíre likely to just sit there like all the other folks who make excuses and tell themselves it isn't possible.
Are you hanging onto your current life and mindset with a death grip?
And telling yourself that you canít do it because it is too hard?
Then I want to tell you something you might not like.
But I'm going to say it anyway.
Suck it up and DO something about it rather than continuing to jaw about how lifeís not fair and youíve got a sweet tooth or a food addiction or you canít get motivated to work out!
Look, sustained weight loss IS hard.
If it were EASY youíd have already done it, right?
But it IS something that you CAN do.
But only if YOU want it the most.
Because despite the fact that your spouse might soak the pillow with tears over your physical condition, THEY CAN'T MAKE YOU FIT.
And even though your kids might hope and pray that you lose weight, THEY CAN'T MAKE YOU DO IT.
And old Doc Jones might be at wit's end from telling you year after year that you need to focus on your health, BUT HE CAN'T MAKE YOU HEALTHY.
YOU have to want this.
And I'm not talking about some "Oh, I'd sure like to lose some weight." mealymouthed rhetoric.
Some weak statement... some wish... some desire... some passing yearly resolution that gets heaped up on the pile of failed resolutions that went nowhere because you really werenít serious about it.
I'm talking about wanting it enough to DO something about it.
Because it is only through ACTION that things are accomplished.
You MUST want this more than anyone else because if you don't...
(And you might not like this part but it IS the truth.)
You are likely going to die an obese individual.
You are likely to have trouble getting around in your later years.
You are at an increased risk to have terrible conditions like diabetes, heart problems, joint problems, neuropathy.
And if you DO NOTHING about this, recognize this:
YOU are making the decision NOT to change.
YOU are making the decision to put yourself at increased risk for host of medical conditions.
YOU are RESPONSIBLE for your weight.
Look, I donít write this stuff to get comments.
I write it because YOU need to hear it.
And *** I *** need to hear it.
I CHALLENGE YOU RIGHT NOW TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.
Do something now.
Track your food.
Everything, each day and be honest about it.
It is 5 minutes a day.
Ten tops if you are new to do it.
Youíve got 10 minutes, right?
I GUARANTEE YOU that you arenít too busy to do this.
Because MY life is BUSY.
And I make time to do it.
YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY DO THIS.
You are strong.
Do you realize this?
Strong enough to beat this.
Strong enough to take control of your life.
To lose the weight, get fit and be healthy.
WAY stronger than you might think.
You just need to want it the most.
Then what are you waiting for?
Look, I donít know what youíve been through.
I donít know what your life has been like.
What kind of things you deal with on a daily basis.
I donít know about your home life.
Or your upbringing.
But I DO know this:
You MUST decide that YOUR HEALTH is a PRIORITY.
Or you will NEVER change.
So DO SOMETHING right now.
TODAY is the day.
What are you waiting for?
Iím pulling for you.
Because you have value and worth.
And while it might not seem like it right now, there is a fit, healthy person inside you that is just waiting for you to decide to dump all the excuses and get your backside in gear.
This isnít about your mom or your kids or you best friend or your spouse.
This is about YOU.
And YOU can do this.
