Today was the first day of my knitting class. I was so psyched that I laid out my clothes last night, took my shower last night, and packed my bag of yarn and goodies last night. Good thing I did because I got up thinking the class started at 10:00. About 8:45 my DH said, " I'll finish washing the dishes so you won't be late." The class started at 9:00!
There are only three of us in the class (plus the teacher) and the other two didn't know anything about knitting except that it involved yarn and sticks. So, we started with the absolute basics and I got to be star pupil by default! This feels really good after feeling like such a moron with the troubles I've had with the socks.
Let me interject that I learned the basics from my dad about 50 years ago, but never knitted anything that wasn't square or rectangular up until I decided I wanted to knit socks. I'm on my third pair (ever) now after having to run to the yarn shop to get help every time I messed up something or the other. Last week, I actually learned how to pick up dropped stitches. So, if nothing else, I'm slowly moving towards being a truly independent knitter.
We covered three different kinds of cast-ons and two were new to me, so the class wasn't an absolute wash. Then, when I was doing my homework for next week, I figured out a faster way to unknit than I had been doing previously. That's a big plus for me!
I'm so grateful to have signed up for this class. It's a lot easier to have someone who is an excellent teacher show you how right from the beginning than to have to muddle through it on your own. Like my weight loss efforts, I should've done this a long time ago!
