Update On Oreo

Saturday, January 26, 2013

I am SO sorry! So many people saw my feed a couple weeks ago that Oreo & I were at the vet's office.

He's OK. He started sneezing violently &, to put it bluntly, 'blowing snot'. I took him to the vet. I knew he didn't have FIV or FEL-V. He tested negative when I got him & he had all his shots. I can't remember what it's called but it has to do with his immune system, which is crappy and is probably why he's blind. He's on L-Lysine & FortiFlora. He does have a type of herpes virus that just wrecks havoc on him. But then he bounces back.

He's also slowly losing eyesight in his left. He's totally blind in his right eye. In October, when I found him, he still had about 30% vision in his right eye. That's diminished a bit. The vet said he'd probably be completely blind by summer. But he's got Zeus, who is also totally blind and deaf in 1 ear.

I've decided that when we go on our cruise I'm going to board Zeus & Oreo with the vet. It'll be safer & better for them, considering their 'handicaps'.

Anyway, emoticon for asking about Oreo. He is a sweet cat!

Poor little Oreo and Zeus!! They have a lot to deal with but they have you as their angel to look out for them. I have noticed that our veterinary hospital boards pets and I think it's a great idea. I've had friends whose pets died while they were in kennels.

So sad to hear when animals have to suffer like this! The saving grace is that they are in your care and are going to be just fine. You take good care of your animals too, AWESOME!

Sorry to hear about Oreo. I think that's a very wise decision to board them at the vet.

Sorry to hear that Michele, he has a wonderful mum taking care of him and it's a great idea to leave them with the vet.

I'm so sorry to hear about Oreo's eyesight. Thank God he has a buddy to be with and a Mommie who loves him. Leaving them with the vet is the best thing to do so you don't have to worry.

Sorry to hear about Oreo and that he's losing his eyesight. Poor kitty! emoticon Glad that he has a buddy though that is completely blind too though. It sounds like boarding Oreo and Zeus together at the vet's would be safer and better for them when you go on your cruise.

Hope Oreo recovers soon!! I am new to cat tending and feeding and want to encourage a feral farm cat to hang around and control rodents in a large remote area beside me. What would you suggest I put out to feed him wihtout it attracting a ton of raccoons? he is a stray. emoticon Any suggestions?

PS I no longer have a dog as of a few years back.
