Am I in a rut??

Saturday, January 26, 2013

I've often read that we should switch up our menus so we won't get bored and end up eating something we shouldn't.

I know for the most part that is true, but sometimes I like having the same meal several times in one week. Since I'm doing this by choice, I don't think I'm in a rut. Case in point, I've had a grilled chicken Caesar salad 4 times this week. emoticon

What can I say? I got some Romaine lettuce on sale, and I'm determined not to waste food any longer, I didn't want it to go bad before I used it. Made my own croutons, went easy with the cheese, and used a low fat dressing. It just seemed to hit the spot this week. In fact I'm finishing off my 4th while writing this blog. emoticon

Tonight I'm also having some raw veggies with low fat dip - just to get a few more veggies today.

I'm also in the middle of planning my menu for the next week, don't want to go to the store without my list. So far I've planned a variety of dishes, so no repeat of this week. I'm trying to work up a few menus that I can rotate over several weeks. That way my planning for the week will not take so long, and I can substitute some meals if I find a real bargain at the store or if I just want to try something new.

I've had a fairly low key day. Did some cleaning and spent time on the computer. Think I'll probably watch a movie tonight and do some knitting.

Hope you are all having a great weekend my friends. Thank you so much for your continued support. Some of my non Spark friends can't understand how I can have real friends on line. They just don't get it - you are true friends also. So I am thankful for all of you. emoticon emoticon

Love the quote! And I hear ya about the menu planning. I try different recipes & I sometimes end up w/stuff I don't use for anything else...hey, it happens! I do like a variety tho & strive to try new recipes now & then. I have to admit I do have my favorites & make them often! I do believe my DH would rather I make more meat & potatoes tho...but unless he's doing the cookin', it ain't happening! LOL

Get yourself a good cookbook or peruse SP recipes & cook yourself up some new dishes! You may happen across something that just makes you say...

Mmmmmmmm good! emoticon

A rut? Who you, didn't sound like it to me. And if you like Chicken Caesar and you lost 5 lbs to boot, I don't hear any complaints... I sure wouldn't be making any if I was lucky enough (or should I say, had worked that hard!!!) to be boosting of such great news... Congrats, you go, girl...

Great idea on doing up a couple weeks of meal plans and then subbing as the sales... I need to look in my fridge and do the same.. Dh cooked last nite, well, last nite it was frozen lasagna.. Tonite he cooked again, frozen meat pie with Green Giant mixed veggies.... I would have loved a salad with the lasagna, but I wasn't in the mood to be in the for my WI I was up .6 instead of being down, so my own fault...

Sometimes it's easier to eat the same meals again and again, you get to know the calorie content and if it's something you enjoy then why not eat it alot!

I sometimes do that myself, in order not to waste food. Can't afford to throw good food away. :-) I freeze leftovers when I can, but sometimes the meal won't work that way, so I'll eat it up on consecutive days. Why not, if it is a healthy and delicious meal. :-)

Eating healthy is never a rut it is being healthy and enjoying what you eat. I too have several go to meals, that are quick, easy and healthy. It works for me.

I think a person is in a rut when they GET bored with whatever they're doing.
Repeating something you enjoy isn't necessarily bad, especially if it keeps YOU going. I keep making roasted chickpeas instead of going for bread or rice.

What others may call a rut might really be a path, right?

Maybe the discussion about the rut meant someone who ate the same things all the time instead of just in the same week. Then I guess there might be an issue with missing nutrients, but in your situation, it seems to me you're just being sensible about the food you have on hand.

Good for you with all the planning, too!

BTW, I love the poster you included - I posted the saying on my desktop.

I always keep my favorite low-cal dishes on hand, such as chicken, Weight Watchers soup, etc.
