Sleepy Saturday

Saturday, January 26, 2013

After a brutal workweek I was seriously looking forward to the weekend but woke up WAY too early this morning. Oh well, hopefully I can doze a bit this afternoon.

Last night I broke one of my salad plates -- BOO! Well, I suppose I should be grateful it took almost a year to lose a piece of it, and at least it wasn't a dinner plate. Besides, my table only seats four, so the chances of entertaining eight are pretty slim. I thought that with some of my tax money this year, maybe I'd pounce on the Bobby Flay dinnerware I wanted and didn't get last year, so I went to the Kohl's website. Phooey -- it's been discontinued. So I'll hold off for awhile longer on that and use my incomplete set for now.

Right now I've got a bone-in pork shoulder roasting in a VERY slow (225 degrees) oven all afternoon. I'm going to saute some greens with olive oil, garlic, vinegar and red pepper flakes. I'm still thinking about the starch -- I might finally break into that box of white quinoa and cook some of it to saute with shallots and bacon? Yes, I broke down and bought the bacon, and I've become a serious shallot junkie lately. The leftover pork will eventually hit the crock pot and become a base for some kind of soup. I've done Southwestern posole and Asian noodle. Hmmm...maybe something kind of New England with butternut squash, potatoes and other root veggies? Or Portuguese caldo verde with pork and kale? I do love kale! Got to give that some thought.

Watching Chopped right now. I had morning coffee with Bobby (and his BBQ Addiction). I'm also working on the afghan I'm knitting and VERY SLOWLY doing a few chores. Tomorrow I have no choice but to go to the laundromat, which I am seriously not looking forward to but I literally have NO clean clothes.

Tomorrow. I badly need some rest after this last work week.

So...when are ya going to invite me to dinner? I'm available any time! Since I'm reading the blog a day late, I've got to ask what you decided to do with the pork. I really do like pork. Think I'll get a loin next time I'm at the store. I've got a really good herb rub...

Portuguese Caldo Verde is also a big thing in New England. Many fled Portugal and came to New England as they were often fishermen. Portuguese is spoken here frequently, like Spanish, Italian, and Hmong. Maybe you could do a New England spin on the Portuguese soup. Enjoy your Saturday!

I find it so frustrating when I break something of a set. I usually by a set of six glasses, right now all my glasses are in a set of 4 or 5. Your meals sound great, enjoy
