Being Plus Sized Is Not A Reason To Be Hated

Saturday, January 26, 2013

There's one thing that has bugged me a lot since yesterday. There is a Facebook page that is stealing photos of plus size women as a way to make fun of them. A few of my friends photos have been stolen and put onto this Facebook page that truly is a hate page. I know that it has been reported many many times from myself included and Facebook responds back saying that the page isn't hate speech and the content has not been removed. I just don't understand the logic behind their decision but several in the plus size community on Facebook are pissed off and I am too. Just because we are bigger does not mean we have no rights and that we shouldn't be a protected class like age, sex, religion, sexual orientation... why should weight/size not be included in that? I'm sick and tired of being judged based solely on my weight. It's not right nor is it fair. I am big but I don't deserve to be treated so poorly because of my weight or the way that I look. I think it is downright disgusting that the admin of this Facebook page is doing this to these women... spreading so much hate because they are either bored, really hateful, have no heart, or because they themselves are a plus sized woman with no self-esteem.

Hmmmm.... think of other groups who are targets (minorities).

I bet FB would remove those pages immediately! Chris

I knew of someone who had their page hacked and an ex-boyfriend put a terrible post with a degrading photo on her wall. I wrote admin and they said they couldn't do anything because it wasn't wrong etc., etc. However, I know that at least 4 other people also filed a complaint for the same post and they finally took it down. Spread the word about this page, get others to complain, and they will listen! It is so upsetting to hear what they are able to get away with- it is a clear violation of human rights. I wonder what makes them so insecure that they need to put other people down.

How ridiculous for Facebook to ignore requests for it to be taken down. Sometimes you just can't fix stupid. Sometimes we have to rise above it and move on. Sorry this happened to you and your friends!

Making fun of someone due to their size or lack thereof is stupid, petty and childish. Oh, did I just define Facebook? My husband and I have a joint account and all is seems to be is revolving drama. I am shocked 95% of the time of the things people post for the world to see. Amazes me.

I would be happy to report the page if you send it to me.

This makes me so sad. People feel free to say mean things to plus sized people in real life, too.

What is the name of the FB page? The more people who report it as a problem, the more likely it is to go away...

I have to admit, fear of action (or inaction, in Facebook's case) like this is part of the reason I don't participate in Facebook.
Sorry you had such a bad experience. I really don't understand the need to make fun of people you don't even know.

I totally agree- this is no different then if they were doing it to gays or different religions or races. For someone reason fat is the last acceptable prejudice.
