Time to act like a grown up

Saturday, January 26, 2013

I've been tossing this idea around in my head for a while. Probably because my inner 3-year-old has been acting up a lot lately.

I have decided that if I am going to be successful on this journey, I have to act like a grown up.

What does that mean? Well, for me it means:

*Eat your fruits and veggies because you should. Of course I WANT to eat sweets and fattening foods (say emoticon ), but my body actually NEEDS the good stuff.

*Say no to emoticon and yes to more emoticon . Again, the 3-year-old (or more accurately the 21 year old) wants the beer and wine; the grown up knows that moderation is needed.

*Go to the gym/go for a run or walk even when I don't feel like it.

*Go to bed on time and get enough sleep.

Yep, it's boring. But if I'm going to be successful, it's what I gotta do. Period.

And really, the success part is way more exciting than acting like a 3-year-old, right?

The trouble with 3-year-olds is they can't see very far into the future. A month away is "forever". Which is why adults can do stuff that seems so boring to 3-year-olds -- we can see what it is all building up to.

Remember to give the 3-year-old a few toys here and there to play with. emoticon
