January Recap

Saturday, January 26, 2013

January started out with a bang, I joined Spark Coach Consistency and Motivation program which opened up my eyes to new things. Gave me the motivation I need to get back on track. And getting back on track I was able to reach one of my goals to be 21 days binge free. I am not perfect so after over 21 days I did binge again but got right back on track and am going to do an other 21 days binge free. I know now I can do it.

I joined January Jump Start Fitness challenge and started doing strength training everyday working different muscle groups. I increased my cardio to include a 30 minute walk most days of the week on top of riding my exercise bike 30 minutes every day. And yes I did see a drop in my weight, not a whole lot but I am really happy with what I did lose. I can't wait to go to my doctors next week and show him my weight loss.

I did have a little stress this month as my Hubby who had started to be my workout buddy was taken to bed for over a week with arthritis. He is only 68 and should not be bedridden, but he was. I could not get him to go to the doctors and I worried that this was what life would be like from now on. I read up on what to do to treat arthritis and found that he needed to take ibuprofen and use a heating pad on the joint that was hurting. After a day and a half of this treatment he was up and walking around again.

All and all I would say January was a good month and I am looking forward to new challenges in February.

January was an awesome month for you! You did so good!!!! emoticon Glad to hear you did research and figured out what your hubby needed to get up out of bed and get moving again!! I have a stubborn one to that never wants to go to the doctor, Isn't it frustrating!!

I hope February is just as great and even better, keep it up. I know you can do it!!!!

Hi Kathryn- I am on two of your teams and I saw on the huddle you needed here I am! You have come to several of my blogs and that is truly appreciated! You sound like me- I get all gung ho and work out, eat good and behave for the most part ( overeat too many times, especially on weekends). Slow progress is good, but for me, having osteoarthritis I need to get this weight off my bad knees! So, 39 pounds in 29 months is just TOO slow for me. But, I know what I am doing wrong and it is so hard to not overeat at times-especially when you eat out as much as we do on some nights, due to extensive traveling! emoticon
I keep walking/hiking, doing chair exercise, my indoor bike and will soon be biking outdoors (now that our bikes are ready to go)-increasing aerobic exercise is great and you are doing great! emoticon
For my arthritis I use Tylenol or a generic of Arthritis strength 650 mg 2-3 times a day and Glucosamine HCL with MSM 5000 mg a day and on those days my knees hurt too bad I used Bio-freeze or Icy Hot on them. Heat packs for my back (arthritis in it too) and chiropractic care 1-2 times a month. I think not moving with arthritis is worse for it, so keep doing what you did for hubby and keep him walking/moving as much he can! My Orthopedic specialist/surgeon and chiropractor , says walking is the best for anyone who is not mobility challenged. Hope your husband feels better and if he decides to use Glucosamine which my Dr.'s highly recommend, make sure to check with his or the pharmacist to make sure it doesn't interact with any medicines.
It takes time to make healthy changes and old bad habits are not easy to break, but hang in there-you will get there!! emoticon emoticon

emoticon job. There are special heat pads you could get for the hubby. What I like is he did not just stay in bed, you motivated him to get back at it. emoticon
