Rest - the undervalued component

I learned another valuable lesson this week -- or actually it was a reminder.

I had been battling a minor bug since Christmas. It was a come and go type of thing and was really beginning to just plain irritate me since I could feel great one minute and really awful another.

Wednesday I did the unthinkable. I used one of my precious leave days to stay home and rest. The difference was astonishing. I'm a chronic insomniac, so sleep is elusive at times, but just plain putting my feet up and closing my eyes for even 20 minutes a day is now becoming part of the plan. It seems to be working so far.

    I value sleep sooooooooo much! I am learning that getting enough rest is pretty crucial to my well being. I don't care if people are shocked that I go to bed at 8pm. I am an early riser and I get those hours of sleep in no matter what. If I can't go to bed early, I am darn sure napping at some point! It's such an important part of my self-care/self-love package. :)

    So important! The older I get the more I realize when I don't feel well, if I just stay in bed the first day or two and get plenty of rest, I get well much faster than if I try to keep up my daily routine, which seems then the illness drags on forever!
