In the past day, I've gotten over a dozen calls and several text messages for Barbara. Apparently she applied for a loan and probably some other stuff, because the communications come from numerous different phone numbers and variations of "caller unavailable."

Either someone hates me and is trying to ruin my life one annoying phone call and middle-of-the-night text at a time by giving telemarketing companies my phone number, or someone gave a dummy phone number when they signed up for something.

Or, I guess it could have been an actual idiot named Barbara who messed up typing her phone number into some form, and is now wondering why she hasn't heard anything about that loan.

Whatever the case may be, DAMN YOU, BARBARA!!!

Just be careful someone isn't doing an identity theft thing on you. Keep an eye on your credit stuff for a bit.

I have a happier story about a kind of wrong number. Like everyone else, we got multiple calls a day leading up to the presidential elections. We rarely answered the phone, but I did once, and the friendly woman on the other end asked for Peter. I rather unkindly said that Peter hadn't been at this phone number for at least 10 years (pause while she's wondering is he dead, ok, is this woman going to break down on me?) then I went on to say that although he didn't live there anymore I was certain he had voted and he had voted for Barack Obama. We both laughed and she thanked me.

Sometimes, when I get one of these calls, I will try to entertain myself by seeing how far I can string the caller along. I "win" by making him or her hang up, but a longer call is "better", on the 6ball scoring method.

We get collection calls for the previous owners of the house even though we have a different phone number. It sucks!!

I once had a phone number assigned to me that had formerly belonged to a dead beat. I got tired of explaining the situation and just dialed the operator and got a new phone number!

Was a "new house" situation so not much trouble to change my contact info with people.

Good luck!

  I experienced the same thing.
Gave up answering the phone.
They finally gave up.
I felt it was an invasion of privacy.
Hang in there.

Oh, that would actually be funny if it weren't so frustrating for you!

Oh crap! And the thing is - short of changing your phone number, I can't think of a way to fix it.
