Dodged Rebellion with a Burst of Motivation

Friday, January 25, 2013

What a great day! I've finished my workout by 10 AM and have the whole day left to accomplish things. (And I do have things to accomplish!)

I blogged about feeling close to open rebellion against my exercise plan a couple of days ago. For now, anyway, that has been averted. I have motivation again - from more than one source. emoticon

1. My husband is retiring today. It is his last day at work. Next we get to learn how to be retired. Not to stop doing things and decay, but to be able to examine subjects and locations we previously had no time to explore. We're both looking forward to it.

2. My youngest daughter is engaged. The wedding is in June, and I'm just now diving into a number of sewing projects she has asked me to do for that event, and I am eager to do them. My usual rule is that I have to finish my workout first, so I'm not dragging my feet as I was earlier in the week.

Amazing the difference between slogging through a workout because it's a chore that's "good for you" vs. doing it with energy so as to be able to do something you are looking forward to doing!

I hope your workout is good and leaves you feeling GREAT!

Great attitude....I love the feeling after a workout but having a fun thing awaiting you once you have completed the workout certainly helps immensely!

Congratulations to you and your husband for that wonderful phase of retirement, I am looking forward to that day in two years. That is also exciting about sewing for your daughter's wedding.

Yes, a workout with motivation goes so much better than one that you slug through. I am glad you are on track and doing well! emoticon

Congrats to you and hubby! I quit my FT job in May 2011, stopped teaching online in May 2012, and I've really been enjoying all my new hobbies and activities. I know you both have a blast.

I love your "rule". Working out first keeps you from feeling guilty all day, too! Great job avoiding open rebellion!

Sounds like you have a lot to look forward to, celebrate and enjoy! Speaking as a person who stopped working in 2008, I can say that I've never felt busier, more rushed and out of time as I do in so-called retirement. I quickly found things that interested me and called to me to investigate and do and now each day is filled to the brim somehow. Exercise is a vital part of maintaining energy and health while advancing ever more rapidly to older age (we're 57 now). Mind the gap between reality and expectations and you're all set!
