Today is day 28 of my current streak!

The week got off to a great start...I was exercising, being active throughout the day, and eating right. Then on Wednesday, back pain hit! I was able to do my morning Zumba workout, but by afternoon when I was trying to do my upper body ST, the pain was getting worse. So I decided to just skip that workout, and also skip doing my evening workout of DDP Yoga. Hubby gave me a back massage, and I was so sure that I'd be feeling better on Thursday.

Well, I woke up on Thursday morning and my lower back was really hurting. Just walking was kind of painful. In the past, I would let back pain make me retire to bed with a heating pad and lots of comfort food. But that was the old me. The new me doesn't do that! So instead of laying around on the heating pad, I got up and did some stretches for my back. I wasn't able to workout, and I was so bummed about that. (A year ago, if you had told me that I'd be bummed about not being able to workout, I would have laughed my head off!) But I know that sometimes, the healthiest thing we can do is to REST. So no workouts for me on Thursday. My eating was right on track, although hubby offered to go get me a milkshake and fries! He knows that in the past, I would have loved to have a "treat" like that when I was laid up with back pain. But I said "no thanks" and asked him to make me some tea instead!

This morning when I woke up, I still had back pain. I'm sorry that I have to miss my workouts again today! But I know that if I forced myself to do them, I'd just make my back feel worse. So for now, I'm just doing stretches. But my fingers are crossed, hoping I can resume my workout schedule either tomorrow or Sunday! I really MISS my workouts!

So although I haven't been able to workout, my streak is still intact...because my streak is not about exercising every day. My streak is about making each day as healthy as I possibly can. And right now, taking it easy is the healthiest thing I can do for myself!

So sorry to hear that your back is bothering you. You are very smart to take it slow and not do too much. Ease yourself back into your workouts when you are feeling better. I wish you lived closer, we could take a nice walk together.

Big Hugs,

Sorry to hear about your back, Pixie, but emoticon for having such a healthy attitude and way of thinking! What a star you are! Your blog today proves just how far you've come, how much you've changed from your 'old' self.

Congratulations and well done!

Try to enjoy the enforced rest. You'll come back stronger.

Smart girl you are, and yes you will only prolong it if you work out too soon or hard. I hope it goes away soon, I know back pain all too well. HUGS and awesome eating well etc.
I keep thinking of you, and the streak continues cos it was healthy day not just exercising.

I hope that your back is feeling better and stronger too with every new day! We can't keep doing the same things over and over and over each and every day just because that doesn't happen in real life. We have little bumps and snags that come along and they mess up our routine! So just think of this as normal and go with the punches and you'll be back doing what you've been doing lickety-split! emoticon emoticon

I like your plan not doing your work outs while you are injured but remember you are still doing something by doing the stretches you are walking around the house.
Do what you can where you are remember its a journey not a one day hhike
Slow and steady makes us a winner No one said it wold be easy there will be bumps in the road and you just hit a small road bump and soon it will smooth out and you will be back to you three time a day work outs
have great week end and get healed soon

So sorry about your back pain! But emoticon for taking care of yourself! Your back is telling you it needs to rest, so that is what you need to do! It is so not worth it to risk hurting it further. Take care of you!

Man oh man, I can sympathize on the back pain! I am proud of myself for getting through the door of our new local "Hot Yoga" place & doing it even though I was the fattest girl in the room... (Yoga is my salvation for a stiff spine)

And as always, thanks for your supportive comments on my SparkPage.

I am sorry that you are having back pain. You are doing this exactly right. because we have to keep moving. Stretching is probably one of the best things that you can do for it. I hope that you are feeling better soon. emoticon The hug is for passing up the milkshake and french fries emoticon

Pixie, you're wise not to exercise when you have pain. Speaking from experience, my left knee gave out on me in November and only got worse when I kept trying to exercise at Curves. So I stopped for 6 weeks, started back recently and am doing GREAT again! Turned out that I overdid it on the machines, and kind of bummed up my knee.
Lesson learned! Take it easy when you have pain and for me . . . don't overdo it when on the machines!
You're going to be fine and of course it hasn't stopped your streak! You're okay, girl!
Love to my spark daughter,

I love it. It's not just about working out it's about being healthy. Sometimes we have to listen to our bodys and take a step back. It's not easy but sometimes it's best.

Hope your back feels better soon. If you have a pool nearby, you could possibly swim, but i think it's good that you didn't force you to workout. Congratulations for not letting your husband get you the fries and a milkshake, although it was kind of him to offer. Maybe next time he could make you one of Chef Meg's smoothies!
