So when it was -30 degree's:

Friday, January 25, 2013

I decided to do something useful. Some of you know I'm all about getting rid of clutter in our homes and in our lives. I needed to start with my home and I have already done that.
But some area's always need revisiting. In my life...it's the kitchen. So yesterday I decided to clean out the one cupboard where all my recipes tend to get put. I meant well and bought folders....and that's where it stopped several months ago. What didn't stop was me printing off recipes I wanted to try. So armed with a naughty day outdoors and time on my hands I pulled out everything in that cupboard. I got it all organized into 5 folders.
1. Tested and Do Again (4 and 5 stars)
2. Try Soon
3. Try
4. Vegan, sprouts,soy, tofu....ect..
5. Full calorie recipes
After organizing the recipes I went a head and organized the pantry.
A special thanks to my good SparkBuddy Fran0426 for getting me back on track. She is attacking her cupboards one at a time also.

Teresa! You reminded me of something from when I first started to declutter.
I was painting the house. I took all the pictures off one wall. The family wall let's call it. You know the one with all the pictures of the kids from birth on to 12th grade. Well I filled in all the nail holes...and didn't put the pictures back up. I know what they looked like back then. It doesn't mean I love them any less. It means I have more time to do things with them now that I'm not dusting 40 picture frames!
Then I cleaned off my mantel except for 2 things. Now that is faster to dust.
It's truely uplifting how much time you can save and no one harbor's anything against you. Matter O fact....they come into your house and comment on how clean it is. How do you keep it this clean???? All's I have to do is the dishes and vacuum/mop the floor. Dust once in a while. Done... It's great...but you have to get to that step first which means some elbow grease and sometimes some agony about what to get rid of.
    Good Luck

I'm a recipe hoarder too, as in I collect them but then don't organize them so they become clutter. I bought 3-ring binders about 4 years ago to put my loose ones into. I only just did so last month! Turns out I have one just for desserts! Kinda tell me something about myself...lol. I'm glad I waited only b/c I was able to throw away many of them for being outrageously decadent in calories and low in nutrition. They appealed to the "old" me. Now, they appall the new me!
Do you think this new lifestyle is what spurs us on to declutter other parts of our lives, like the cupboards? I know I've been inspired to simplify even my knick-knacks and wardrobe. I imagine myself getting out of the house more and more with less time to devote to things like dusting or deciding on which shoes will be best. I know it all relates. When you get serious about your health, you have to "clean out" your soul too, and that soon begins to translate to other areas.
I'm loving this journey! And I love hearing about yours! All your cooking, experimenting with food, and now your recipes!

Yikes, I am very impressed with the organization that you accomplished! I am going to have to rethink my cold day agenda LOL I have spent the last two days dealing with frozen pipes and dead heaters/furnaces. I was going to kick back today, but you have inspired me to take some time to declutter time too! emoticon
