an active lifestyle

we're very lucky in that i have a job that i can do anywhere - just bring the laptop, internet connection - and my office is in business. and since i work at night, most days we have time for a long walk- or two, or three.

some places are just so conducive to an active lifestyle. when we are in sweden in the summer, the 8-mile days just add up without even thinking about it. and here on molokai, we hit 10 miles yesterday. all walking, nothing strenuous - but that's calories anyway. the beach is 2 miles away; once we're there, we just enjoy it - and before you know it, the miles add up. some days on the beach are like walking in pudding, feet sinking in the sand ankle deep, every step a struggle, while others are like yesterday - pure pleasure. feet sloshing in the water. and by the time we were home, 7 miles had added up. we worked during the heat of the day, and went out for another walk before sunset - and there were 3 more miles. and we are living at the top of a hill - and finally our thighs have stopped hurting and we are able to power up and down without a problem. it feels strong!

and some days good food choices can't be easier - we had leftovers yesterday for both meals, so it was just dish it out, nuke it, and we were eating before any time for snacking. ok. so there was time for a few pistachio nuts with the sunset glass of wine, but with 10 miles, why not:-) the only thing i'm sorry about is not walking a few hundred steps extra to have hit the 25,000 step mark for the day... oh well!

it does help to have a border collie who says it's time for walkies, too (hmm... imagine a border collie at the bottom of the photo, for some reason it was edited out).
