Burn baby burn!

Friday, January 25, 2013

The night before last I went to the gym and decided to do the treamill instead of the stairmaster. Have a "light night" of sorts since it WAS my fifth night in a row. I was feeling great afterwards though it took me 20 minutes to do it in and that is more time than I did the stairmaster in.

My legs were numb and shakey but I loved every minute of it. That is until I woke up yesterday morning with my midsection sore as HECK. Why didn't someone tell me that a treadmill could work out that part of your body because I know it wasn't that sore before lol

Anyways, I took yesterday off and went back tonight. I got back on the treadmill, determined to master it tonight. I was wrong. It still took me 20 minutes. But I JOGGED. I jogged. This fat girl don't jog. I smoke. I'm over weight. And the quickest I move is a fast walk. Who needs to jog?

But I did it. And I am proud. I would have to bump it down to 2.7 miles an hour after about 15 seconds until I caught my breath but then I would pick it back up to about 4.3. Off and on the whole way. I know it's not much but to me thats awesome. Of course I did feel like an Elephant plodding along. The sound of my feet hitting the treadmill sounded really loud and sloppy. A little annoying but I'll get there.

I think I need to start stretching though since my calves felt like they were on fire and almost to the point of cramping. Anyone know how soon before and after exercising is stretching effective? I would rather stretch at home rather than the gym but I live 10-15 minutes away from the gym so don't know if that would work or not.

I have also learned that I can eat unhealthy stuff as long as it's in moderation. I used to HATE this word. But now I have come to understand it. I can eat it.. Feel guilty for about a minute, then go back to my healthy ways without the really bad cravings.

I also think that it is starting to pay off. I have been having a few comments about looking like I am losing weight. And my pants are fitting a little looser and some of my shirts where the sleeves were tight on my arm isn't quite as tight. Really need to get a tape measure and measure myself. I think I might actually get to see some results that way. Real results. Not just me guessing.

So I think thats all for now. Keeping Sparking!

Thanks! I will have to look it up. I would LOVE to one day be able to do a 5k. I know not anytime soon. But someday. That is one of my goals. I keep thinking how amazing it would feel to do it. Makes me giddy just thinking about it. :)

Congrats on the good work outs. If you are interested in working into some jogging there is a really good book by Jeff Galloway called Getting Started and another for women running I can't remember the name right now. I am currently in the 3rd week of the running program from Getting Started.

Good luck with your workouts!

Not bad news at all :) While I would rather do it at home I can figure out a way to do it at the gym as well. Had no idea that stretching before a work out was considered bad now. Was always taught in school to stretch before hand. Seems things are always changing even in the fitness world. emoticon

About stretching. It's best to do stretching when your muscles are warmed up. They don't recommend it before a workout any more as it can damage muscles and joints. And it is best right after exercising instead of fifteen minutes later. Sorry if I'm the bearer of bad news. Good louck to you. Glenn
