This has been an entertaining day for me.

Thursday, January 24, 2013

I spent time on my bath and then DH wanted so badly to take a real shower and wash his hair.
The shower is in the basement and the stairs are the typical narrow treads.
I asked him to use my bathroom shower, he said he could not see how we could do it. He was sure he would not be able to get in to the tub.

I already had the plan in my head I knew if I told him he would back off so I went step by step.
I began with turning the furnace up so he would not shiver, just lately he has been doing this. The Dr said it happens for some people and it is a reaction to the body getting used to the implant. He said some people do have a fever so that could be the shivering we see.

My tub has glass doors and there was no way I can get them out. I pushed them together to make the widest opening possible and I threw a towel over the bottom of the tub.
Then I used my IGLOO cooler, it is just the right height for a seat on a picnic so I put that on the towel and put another towel over the lid.

I told DH he had to wash his hair it was getting really greasy. I told him my plan and I told him if he is hurting or uncomfortable I will back off.
He stepped in to the tub, it has good grab rails.
I produced a Waterproof Poncho and put it over his head. He sat with his back to the shower and I took down the hand held shower head and I sprayed his lower back with warm water so he could tell how warm he wanted it.
He likes very warm water. Then I sprayed his head and shampooed his head and his beard. He was feeling good because of the hot water so I washed and rinsed his head again.

I took off the poncho and and used the spray to wash his back and he was a happy camper. He sat and soaped his body and I sprayed him with the hot water. Mission accomplished !!

I had a robe ready to put on him and then we went to the living room with the propane Jotul stove going it was 75 degrees so it worked very well.

After a cup of hot tea and a SCONE he told me what a great job I had done for him WOO Hoo way to go to hear DH saying THANKS and gave me a BIG HUG.

He did all of his exercises and sat in the chair with his leg elevated. he fell asleep and I did not realise he was in that position way too long so his back was hurting. I had some BIO-FREEZE and it has calmed it down.

It is now 15 below at this time so we are off to bed early. HUGS Pat in Maine.

Definitely an entertaining day, lots of laughing so it was GOOD!!

Awesome, again Pat you are so innovative. I love it. I didn't have to be that innovative with my son, as a friend gave me a shower bench for him but I think I will employ your idea when we go visiting. We frequently take a cooler, and to pack his shower bench takes up a lot of room-so next time we are at my brother-in-laws we will use the cooler.

Laughter is probably the best medicine you can give each other.

    Pat,

What a great idea to use the Igloo. Another thing that might work would be one of those plastic outdoor side tables for a shower seat. Those tub seats are very expensive to buy.

Stay warm and comfy.

You are a fantastic planner!!! Glad DH got into that shower as I can only imagine how gross he must have felt not being able to shower. AND the warm water would help him relax too.

Sounds like a very successful day -- especially the thank you from Fred!!! Don't you just love it!

HUGS and keep up the wonderful work. Your DH is a very lucky man.

stronger and it must've been so good for him to be
able to have a hot shower. You deserve a medal,
but most of all a good rest. Stay warm.

Bravo! Well done. It was 10 below when I woke up this morning, and I can't see the thermometer in the dark to say what it is now, but it is at least zero.

Pat, very nice day. When I took care of my Mom she would shiver when it was bath time. I would crank the heat up and shut the bathroom door with the vent wide open. I was glad to get out of the room when all was done. She was glad it was so warm. Good job on helping your DH with a shower/bath. HUGS, Terry
