A trip to London

Thursday, January 24, 2013

Anihaka and I met on Tuesday for lunch and a walk. We have met up before and have done something different each time. With snow all around it wasn't a day for sitting around so we put our best foot forward and kept going.
We crossed some lovely parkland in London, it's such a city of contrasts with traffic thundering around the streets right next to the parks.

A wonderful bird is the pelican, it's beak can hold more than it's belly can.

Brussel sprouts growing in the park keeper's garden

young horses being taken for a walk beside the more experienced ones

the memorial to Animals in war service (Ani trying to hide)

A pretty cygnet, it started an interesting discussion about it's gender and how you would find out!

as the light was fading this bare tree looked wonderful.

We walked back to the station and caught our trains home. I checked my fitbit and we had done over 16000 steps (about 8 miles). By the time I got home I got my 20000 steps for the day. I love my fitbit!
There always has to be a minor flaw in any lovely day. I had let my husband know what train I was on and half expected him to be at the station. There was no sign of him (the train was a bit early) so I set off home. We were walking on opposite sides of the road and missed each other! I hadn't taken my house keys and he wasn't in when I got home. The neighbour with our keys wasn't in either but luckily there is a guest house on the corner and they let me in (as I needed the loo!) Rog hadn't taken his mobile, I had tried calling him but when I sent the text telling him where I was I asked if I should book a room but he was home and so we met up and got the kettle on. All's well that ends well!

Ani has ordered her fitbit, we'll be comparing numbers very soon. If you are a London and South East Sparker we'll let you know when we'll be meeting again.

I have been locked out twice since moving here in 2009. I sure know what you meant about the loo.

Your walk sounds wonderful!

Wish I could join you for the next walk... but alas I'm too far away! Saw the memorial to Animals which served in the war last time I was in London - lovely that someone thought to recognize them. I hate to think of what they went through. Congratulations on your very long walk. Am I right in reading that you try to do 20,000 steps/day? I have trouble doing 10.000.

It sounds like you both had such a lovely day! I was surprised to see that there was so little snow left - here there were lots on Tuesday! It proves again that we often get your weather the day after or the following day: we now have very little snow left!
I am glad you and DH found each other at the end, what a little adventure!!! emoticon
P.S. I forgot to say that I loved the picture of the bare tree at the end!

Glad you both enjoyed yourselves. I hope we can all meet up again in the spring, I really enjoyed our last walk despite the cold weather.

Looks like it was a lovely walk, and I'm glad you and your husband got it all sorted out in the end!

LOL my first thought when I read what you wrote about pelicans was, "OMG that describes me these days!" My eyes are SO much bigger than my stomach nowadays - I can keep stuffing my mouth indefinitely when it comes to my favorite foods and my mouth doesn't want to quit, but ohhhhh my stomach can't handle as much as my mouth can any more! That's led to a few hard lessons at the Indian buffet...so now I'll always think of pelicans when I go to a buffet. :)

Funny how your day ended up...passing each other like that. It sounds like something DH and I would do! Glad that you will soon have another Fitbit buddy.

Hugs,
Evelyn
