"Squirrel" ~ Distraction/Setbacks along the way

I feel like I work so hard yet I can never quite reach that finish line. This week I played my normal couple hours of volleyball on Tues. night. During the night I woke up with pain, and it was not a restful night of sleep. In the morning as I was talking with my sister, who is a nurse plus a fitness person, about my problem. She was quickly able to assess that I had strained my Piriformis muscle. I watched a cute video http://www.miraclestretch.com/

I have to say it hit home. This past week I literally sat all weekend. (I had attended a 2 day scrapbooking retreat, and the Sun. was church in the morning, and then we played a marathon game of Railbaron with friends) all weekend. Stretching is one of my weakness however after this incident, I will do my best to incorporate stretching on a regular basis. I hate to be in pain, and when my sleep is disrupted I understand that at my age I need to make necessary adjustments.

I have found a wonderful Christian Yoga class to on Sat. morning. I may try to add a gentle yoga on my Tues. morning especially since I have my volleyball in the evening.

I have followed the advice of icing the area, resting and gentle stretching. Yesterday it would have been easy to have skipped my cycle class but I went and had no problem. It will take a few days, if not weeks to totally recover however I am keeping on with my commitment to well being by exercising, eating right, and even taking the time to rest (which is very hard for me.)

    Your what muscle? emoticon Just kidding, I have no idea what muscle that is, but anytime you pull a muscle it hurts. Stretching is a weakness of mine too, I just don't like taking the time to do it, boooooring. But, I have to stretch now, I'm having some problems with shin splints, so I guess we just have to suck it up and do it! emoticon Take care of yourself!

    sometimes we get not so subtle messages from the body to not ignore the importance of stretching---hope all your members are soon getting along and NOT being a continual pain in the butt
