It's amazing what a fresh outlook and attitude can do to a person. A few weeks ago my go to excuse for EVERYTHING that I didn't want to commit to was, "I'm too busy". Stop and make a healthy breakfast? Can't, gotta be on a conference call, I'll grab something later. Time for a healthy lunch? Too busy, I'll just snack. Time to exercise? Impossible, I'm at my desk for 14 hours a day. Dinner time, just order in something, I don't want to cook. How about an after dinner walk? Way too tired, ask me tomorrow.
Today I started my day at 5:30 on the treadmill for 30 mins. I showered and then poured my bran flakes with a fresh peach sliced on top and filled my water bottle. By 6:30 I was on my first conference call. At 7:00 my morning briefing with the CEO. By 9:00 I had put together the sales forecast for the next 3 months, met with each of my managers and headed to another conference call. It's lunch now, the day continued with momentum and I am taking a 15 minute break to enjoy the salad I prepared earlier before I start working on financial projections, hiring profiles, meet with new hires, clients and other fun stuff that just pops up. I have a training call I want to monitor, I'm going to use that time to get in a few minutes of stretching to rejuvenation while I just listen.
My day will be non-stop until 6 tonight when I finally quit for dinner. Which is already planned out and can quickly be made. After dinner I'll make sure I have my starting point for tomorrow, talk to a couple more managers and then sit down and relax.
I'm still as busy as I was last year but I've stopped letting myself use it as a crutch to be unhealthy. Is it easy? Heck no! But I am so glad I am doing it.
